To the webmasters: What is the data based on which you have arrived at the average delay for this train? I am a bit surprised, because it seems you have used the data of the fog delays and missed out on the normal on-time arrival data - not blaming you, may be you had no access to RT data!

@first blogger:
there were two problems in january - one was fog which delayed trains much more beyond time schedule & there was also telengana problems due to which trains were delayed. south trains coming were delayed during that time -gt, kerala were also delayed. kk was not affected much due to telengana problems except when it was very severe. mas route got affected more.
thats the reason for so many reds in arr/dep history.

Please make the TN stop at Gandhiji's Sewagram and Lord Krishna's Mathura. It is an insult not to stop at these 2 important places. I will approach the court.

Train stops are not determined just by religious or patriotic importance. The two stations mentioned by you are important no doubt, but other considerations just as potential demand, station distances and availability of other trains also are important factors. I respect your opinion, but I don't think TN Express is insulting Lord Krishna or Gandhiji by not stopping at those stations. May Lord Krishna bless TN Express.

Then Tamil Nadu Express must stop at Mathura, which is an Important Junction and District Headquarters.Sevagram is also an Important stop.So we must provide stops.

Why Itarsi? Why should a superfast train like Tamilnadu Express halt at Itarsi. It has so many other halts. You must have known that earlier Tamilnadu was stopping at Itarsi which was in fact an unscheduled halt.
Tamilnadu runs at maximum capacity eventhough Itarsi (as a halt) is not considered. If people from JBP want to go to MAS, they have other trains besides Ganga Kaveri, like Sangamitra, Bagmati, Gaya-MAS Exp, and so on. They have so many alternatives.
As I suggested on Sep 2, at 04:54 p.m. Itarsi halt should be deleted from the list of stoppages of Tamil Nadu Express.

Sep 05 2009 (07:05PM)
Reply    Add Bookmark  Remove -1
Yep. Another useless halt is Gwalior. Even Agra shout be cut (ppl can take GT Superfast) coupled with WAP 7 at the helm. What we get is 70+ km/hr average speed and near on time performance between MAS and NDLS.

The Tamilnadu Duronto will start from 14th September 09. You need not worry about the stoppages for Tamilnadu express. You can travel in Duronto and reach Delhi.

Initially Duranto will run only once in a week. so TN will retain its position.
In case you need less stops, go by TN Sampark Kranti - it has very less stops and reaches similar travel time of GT.

Stupids, close your mouths.Itarsi and Gwalior are very important stops and they are big Junctions.Only Durontos never stop there. There needs a Technical Change for all the trains except Durontos at Itarsi. So it is an Important Stop.Don't cancel both stations.Otherwise,I will chop both of your heads and burn it in the fire.

when there is a crew change and the train stops for 10 minutes, what's the harm in taking a few passengers. even if its not scheduled stop, technical halt will take upto 10 minutes. so there is no difference if its a scheduled halt or technical halt.

[This might sound stupid but still asking...]
BPL - ET is less than 100 kms. Why can't they have Bhopal (which is a technical halt too) as the technical halt? Is the engine is changed here (ET)?
Gwalior too can be cut as it arrives at unearthly hour and there isn't much patronage (?). I believe they still can cut the running time by 40-60 minutes.

All tamil nadu express trains have ED waP4 from Delhi till it reaches Chennai. Then changing engines at Itarsi is not needed at all. Is there any other reason for its technical halt at Itarsi?

Jun 04 2009 (10:41PM)
Reply    Add Bookmark  Remove +1
Engines are never changed now. it runs through del-mas and vice versa. technical halts are for the drivers guards to change. as for gwalior stop, it was in existence from day 1 - it used to stop at Gwalior, Bhopal, Nagpur and Vijayawada with a journey time of 30 hrs when it was introduced with 13 bogey train. deterioration started when additional bogies were started and twin diesel engines hauled. initially it was hauled by a single diesel engine even after increase of coaches. the train used to come late by 4/5 hours. that condition persisted even after twin diesel engines. over period of time, stops also increased. once, after an accident at KAzipet outer where many coaches derailed (the train was travelling above 100 at that time) the speed was reduced. now 33 hrs has been made permanent so far. only time will tell if it can be decreased. can a 24 bogey train be hauled at the original time of 30 hours with steep incline at places? now rajdhani has a similar number of bogies as of original tn exp and is also roughly maintaining similar time. (28+ hours.)

I am fully in agreement with the fourth replier. What he/she has said is absolutely correct. There is no need to have Itarsi as a halt due to 2 good reasons:
1. Itarsi is a town. So it is obvious that sufficient patronage will not be there.
2. No crew change, no locomotive change is taking place there.
Now, my request will be that kindly withdraw this 3-minute-Itarsi halt from the timetable of Tamilnadu Express.

I am not happy with its efficiency. It often gets delayed inspite of being hauled by WAP 4 and having less stoppages. These days most of the trains do not arrive exactly on time as given in the timetable. What could be the reason?

True, but when a train stops at more stations, more ticketless (or people with an open ticket) will board sleeper class coaches and ask to "adjust". More salespersons. More touts. More vendors. More hassles.
Though it's only 10 minutes stop, the net time lost would be around 20 minutes.

One of the fastest train in India other than Rajdhani/Shatabdi/Garib Rath trains. Always a pleasure to travel.
Recently I travelled from Bhopal to Chennai. The train was late by 1hr 25min at Bhopal and reached Chennai 25 mins early! How cool is that?!
It gets very high priority and I noticed that it almost never stop for other trains to pass (it's the other way round) and overtakes trains in front of it.
But there's scope for further reduction in travel time. It shouldn't stop at Itarsi and Gwalior.

This train on its introduction used to cover the distance in 30 hrs. once george fernandes came and introduced long trains & twin engines, the train never covered the distance in 30 hrs. It was always late by 4 - 6 hrs. so instead of maintaining the timings, they increased travel time by 4 hours and made its travel time as 34 hours. They also made it a daily train.

Don't you think that it is nice that Tamil Nadu will be the third most fastest after Rajdhani and Garib Rath. According to me it should take 32 hours to cover the distance between Delhi to Chennai. I have one more question : Is this train really stopping at Itarsi or not?

Good train but dont understand why they have not kept more Cell charging points in sleeper bogies. Always one out of the two provided will not function and there is heavy rush to charge the mobiles or laptops. Railway should do some thing about it

Non-stop between New Delhi and Agra Cantt.

Make sure to visit the official site and double-check the timetable.
