As per IR Rules (IR website) .................
CHANGE OF BOARDING POINT :
If a passenger desires to occupy reserved accommodation from any station enroute, he would be permitted to entrain at any intermediate station he chooses irrespective of the distance from the starting station subject to the following conditions :
A specific request must be made in writing at the station from where the ticket is purchased and reservation made atleast 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train from the starting station.
The Railway Administration reserves the right to use such accommodation from the originating station up to the station at which the passenger is due to entrain.

No refund will be permissible for the portion of journey not performed by the passenger.

For CHANGE OF BOARDING STATION & CHANGE IN NAME - customer can now approach the nearest Railway Reservation Office with Electronic Reservation Slip print out and photo identity proof mentioned in the Electronic Reservation Slip at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of train as per existing Railway rules.
There is thus an inconsistancy in information in the IR website as regards this matter.

@Mr. Jain: The message will say "Arrived" only if the official status has been updated after the expected arrival time of the train. If the official status was updated before the expected arrival time, then the message will always say "Expected Arrival ...", since we are not sure if the train did actually arrive at the expected time.

Thanks for an early reply. Let me be clear that I am not interested in fault finding in the useful site you have developed and keeping active.
My concern is that your site should not give some information which is wrong or does not have a proper base.
How could we (You) concluded at 15:45 hrs. (yesterday) that even after departing in time from Beawer, it was "RUNNING 35 MINUTES LATE". (The CAPs are copied from your message at 15:45 Hrs.).
I am concerned with this "35 Minutes" which neither was right at its display time (nor proved to be right later.)
What for "expected" and "actual" arrival timings are concerned, was not a question. The question was that how did you conclude the train to be running 35 minutes delayes while there was no base to it.
Hope, my objection is clear and you would comment upon once more, please.

@Mr. Jain: The delay of 35 mts. was the actual official delay, when you checked. Train delays are not software calculated, they are the actual officially noted train delays at any given time (when you click on "Get Latest Status").
To answer the question as to whether that delay was logically possible. The train might have left Beawar on time, and then soon after leaving it might have got stuck for 35 mts. at a red signal. That would make the train late by 35 mts. between Beawar and Abu Road, even though the distance is very short.
As for the current avg. speed, that certainly is software derived from the actual delay, and is only a theoretical avg. speed assuming the train is continuously moving between the two stations.
If you actually know for a fact that the 35 mt. delay was inaccurate, then that would mean that the officially noted delay was indeed in error (which does happen sometimes). Your blog comment might have helped some people in that case.

@Mr. Jain: To continue the previous explanation. Train delays keep changing. Sometimes, a train is running late, but the engine driver makes up for the delay, and then the train gets back on time.
What you see on this site are the official expected delays of the train. These official delays can also sometimes be in error, because of clerical mistakes, etc. on the part of the various people in the chain.
This is just to reassure you that delays are NOT calculated by software. As with everything else on the internet, allow 5 percent error with all info. Direct rail phone calls are the only way you can be 100 percent accurate. Hope your question is answered.
