In view of ongoing summer vacation season, the chances are very very dim for confirmation. You have 5 tickets and in case lesser tickets are confirmed, it will still be a problem. You may not also wish to travel sitting all throughout in case your tickets (all or some) get under RAC status.
Tatkal e-ticket booking procedure is same and not different. While booking the ticket, you will have to mention Tatkal in the PRS slip or you have to click for Tatkal ticket on internet booking . Tatkal will open on 31.3.2010 at 8.00 am sharp. You have to be really fast for booking under Tatkal and there also you will run a risk of half booking (only for some).
You may look for any alternative break route say via Mumbai for better chances.

Since you are elderly person, travel only when your tickets are confirmed and right now your tickets are under waiting list. You have better chances of confirmation.
The chart is prepared 3-4 hrs before the train departure time and hence in your case chart will be prepared only on 25.3.2010. Do not get confused will all this.
Check your PNR after 2 weeks and see what the status is.
Also remember your post entry Ref. No. 22921 on this forum for any update on this count.

Be in touch with your wife and daughter and you may get necessary feedback as to where the train is and they may also get some information from the TCs. Approximate arrival time is usually announced at the Rly station also. Delay must have been in departure at New Delhi bcoz of flog.

Sorry to say but I think its difficult to get it confirmed.
allready there is no room in this train on that day and you cant opt for tatkal its also waitlisted, just wait and watch
but still there is hope
so keep patience and keep checking your pnr status, charts will be preared tomorrow evening around 6 pm

According to Arrival/Dep history cited in this site - it was late by 3+ hours - choose train 2628 and check arrival/dep history tab in this website itself.
it is possible that no blogger of this website travelled on that date mentioned. you can check with railways - 139 and know the status.
PS: the link above - train enquiry - previously was showing old data also. but it is not showing now - may be due to non updation of entry. suggest try 139 and know status.

It has now become imperative to use mobile / sms and directly access the passengers / relatives who are travelling and they are on the way.
Mobile network is quite expanded. One is sure of getting accurate position instead of using helplines or train enquiries.

todays karnataka from ndls will start at 02.40am on 9.1.10. all incoming/outoging trains are late. no trains are spared by fog which does not know the diff between duronto, rajdhani, SF or pass. trains.

Karnatka Exp is neither having tatkal quota from BPL nor from ET. The passenger as per my analysis must not had any option in this train to book because if you see this train from NDLS for coming days its allready REGRET for both SL & 3A.

Not sure why you opted for Karnataka Exp. Its just WL 14 for a 700 berth quota Shane-Bhopal exp that leaves Nizamuddin just 15 minutes ahead of Karnataka. You will have very good chances in this train.

WL 23 for 100 berth in AC3T, WL 20 for 40 berths in AC2T. But SL class stands the best chance.. lower WL, higher quota.. almost sure to get confirmed.

Regarding booking Tatkal from Bhopal, one can always give boarding station as Bhopal.. and hence the New Delhi - Bhopal leg of this berth can be allotted to any passenger that "fits in".

Someway I need to come to Bangalore from Shirdi. Since all my 4 tickets are in waiting list, can you tell me the alternative ways of traveling to Bangalore. Like from Pune/Nasik/manmad or any other Railway stations nearby to Shirdi. Can you tell me the availability of tickets in any trains from any of the nearby shirdi railway stations. Any class is OK for me.

the nearest railhead are Kopargaon, Manmad, Daund from where a train can be got for bangalore. try in ordinary second class.

There is regular RAC Quota (provision) in 3rd AC and 2nd AC. Yet, for a train, it is given for (between) select stations only and not from all stations enroute (incl. the originating one) to all stations enroute (including terminating Stations).
ACCH and 1st AC, however, do not have RAC Provision.

as a bloggr has pointed out he can travel in ord second class. Nobody compels anybody to buy RAC ticket. If somebody does not like RAC, he has an option not to take the ticket and go in ord class. it depends on the mindset of the person.

which chattisgarh express r u talking. The one which stops at every other station takes 15 hrs 5 min to travel b/n itarsi and delhi. Karnataka takes only 12hrs full three hours less for the same distance i dont know where you saw it overtaking may be in your dream

you have not mentioned the details - AC r ord. If its AC - very remote chance - suggest to book tatkal. if its ord sleeper, you have chance to convert to RAC. keeping in view the rush, its difficult - look before 2 days of journey - check your status and decide if you wish to take tatkal.

Comparatively, KK is having much better avg than Kongu or Sampark Kranti (via pune).

a valid point highlighted by the 3rd blogger. once upon a time bangalore was not connected wth delhi by a direct train at all. KK express as this train was called when introduced was bifurcated in Arkonam where one part of KK went to Trivandrum and the other went to Bangalore. After running like this for some years, separate trains were introduced as Karnataka express and Kerala Express. routes were changed for Karnatka to go via Khandwa, Daund etc. Sampark Kranti, Rajdhanis are kids compared to Karnataka express. Ask old persons as to the difficulties they faced when Karnatka express was non existent.
before commenting as waste, people should think of the persons who are taking this train enroute and who has no better connections.
if the first blogger things, its waste of time to travel in Karnatka Express, let him travel by alternate trains. better still he has option of flying also.
It took 3 hours for my friend to go his residence from Bangalore Airport which is quite far off now. Whats the use of wasting time in commuting. The flight from delhi consumed less time than the time taken for going home.

Its a very good train.runs on time and serves the purpose of connecting delhi and bangalore.

AS mentioned by the forth bloger when kk was bifercated it started to run via rc, sc. Since this route was also very long it was rerouted via dd .

If you really cannot wait beyond the 27th, then you can cancel this WL ticket. You will get full refund (minus Rs. 40, I think). You can then book a Tatkal ticket, but you will have to pay an extra Rs. 300 Tatkal fare.

All trains bound for South India usually start from "higher number" platforms - like 10, 11, 12, etc. So you should take a taxi/auto to the "Ajmeri Gate" side of the railway station, since that side of the station is closer to these platforms. good luck.

while that is generally true, I think Karnataka express starts from Platform no. 3 at 915pm. I have also inputed the platform# on this site.

Karnataka express is one of the old regular trains connecting Delhi with the south. The train has a pantry car - so food is not a problem. The train usually departs Delhi on time. However, expect about 1-2 hour arrival delay.

food was OK when I went 2 years back. Regular thali at meal times + south indian upma in the morning. But I am not the demanding type - so it depends on what your food standards are - definitely food is not as good as home-cooked. The train is very, very long, but most coaches are sleeper. I think 3 3ac + 2 2ac maximum, but I am not sure. good luck.

this is a good train to travel the pantry is run by south so food is not an issue the train halts at many stations but is usually on time and if delayed is only by few minutes North indians who are uncultured can cause problems like sitting on ur berth and not vacating inspite of ur request Once the train leaves north india then journey becomes smooth as rules are followed The cleanliness in train is ok and is true value for ur money happy journey and gud luck

"waitlist" means all tickets have already been sold. Now you are on queue to get a confirmed ticket, if existing ticket-holder cancel their ticket. You move up the queue when people cancel. You are entitled to a full refund if you are not able to get a confirmed ticket at the time of train departure.

and also when the quota seats like unoccupied foreign tourist, ladies ,tatkal quota etc. are converted to general quota ,ur ticket generally get confirmed depending upon the class , train and WL no.
