The fares are subsidied for Garbi Rath trains.
Be more comfortable by going for AC 3-tier ticket instead of Chair Car. The fare difference is not much. It's only
115 /- more ( Rs. 552 for chair car and Rs. 667 for AC 3-tier).

If seats are available in 3AC then go for that. The AC Chair Car seats are very cramped and uncomfortable and it is not possible to seat for 17 hrs. One has to frequently get up and take a walk. Many seats get vacant at Vadodara and then only one can seat a little comfortably.

CK Tatkal Waitlist tickets are refunded in full in case you are NOT confirmed. With CK WL 20 chances are well 50:50. I suggest that since you are in a hurry, make alternative arrangements, and cancel the Tatkal ticket before it moves to CNF.
Mr HD is right: Mr Irfan is NOT, and I agree with Mr HD that I cannot understand on what basis Mr Irfan is saying 99% confirm ! It's a pity

Thank you Mr Irfan for your now correct and modulated answer. You are correct that there are HO quotas. But for the quotas to work, I think they will be used in GNWL, and not for Tatkal. Tatkal bookings will be confirmed only against Tatkal cancellations. If the GNWL is cleared, and then still berths/seats are available, then CKWL holders MAY get a chance. I don't think Tatkal Holders get a preference in allotment on release of various other quotas. Please do correct me if I am wrong. Good wishes...

This means that the major base of your confidence has not yet worked but your statement has come to be true.

(1) realise that the confirmation is not because of unutilised quota

HO quota or other quotas are allocated certain berths in certain coaches. They are released only after the official time is over. This quota is released by the concerned authorities. These quotas are for specific berths in specific coaches in all trains. When it is released, and there are vacancies, they will go to the RAC/GNWL passengers. NOT to Tatkal. Tatkal will be given only after the RAC/GNWL/PQWL/RLWL is complete. The very meaning of the person getting the berth, as pointed out by you, is before the release of quota! Hence it comes from the CK list as seen in the website of PNR Status of IR! Second, note that official quotas are released one hour before chart preparation, and NOT before that! I know for certain that RB quota release takes place around 4.30 p.m. or 5.30 p.m. for that night's trains, and later at about 1930 or 2000 for later trains and early morning trains. With your blogging experience, and other bloggers experience, you have seen this happening! Due to its very nature, HO quota is released only before charting. Even then, some seats are kept even after charting. Good wishes.

Each train has different trend of confirmation whether General or Tatkal. Also that dependes upon the season as well as the total quota. This Particular Tatkal quota has 270 (so high) berths and hence more chances to have cancellations. Yet, amazing it was that CK WL 20 got confirmed before charting.

The AC 3T berths are always in demand as compared to CC accomodation.
hence try to book on that day itself.

There are two Garib Rath trains from Delhi to Bandra >> Train No. 2910 route is via Kota-Ratlam-Vadodara. Another train is Train No. 2215 and the route is via Jaipur-Ajmer-Falna-Abu Road . For your query the relevent train No. is 2215 and hence see the time table of Train No. 2215.
The Train No. 2215 is leaving New Delhi Sarai Rohilla station @ 9.20 am and reaching Falna @ 7.20 pm. The train is running on Monday / Thursday / Saturday.

GR has no pantry -but snacks, tea, coffee are available. Food can be taken from stations or by ordering thru IRCTC caterers in the train who brings snacks etc. The dinner is served through base kitchens and loaded into the train. Passengers are served food in GRs.

It doesnt even have a pantry.
Apparently it costs too much.

This train runs even slower than a slow local between borivali and bandra ..
next time i am going to get down on borivali itself.

to the 1st blogger -
what you heard is true. but not all coaches do have it. some coaches have the display system in GR - more in Mum=Del sector. (may be avlbl in other sectors also, some blogger can confirm). my relative had travelled by GR Special which had this info wich u had mentioned and he calld me to say that its travelling at 120, 130 speed which kept continuously changing. he also observed that some coaches did not have the same facility in the Spl.
to the 2nd blogger - GR costs of ticket is less than other AC tickets (even less than an Sr Citizen concession tkt) - so 'it costs too much' is wrong.
speed of train lessens when you enter suburban stns and that timing is adjusted in the overall timetable.

i am first blogger. i had covered almost 7-8 coaches of the train but could not find any display board in any coach

Official quotas are generally released about 5 hours before train departure. i.e. about 1 hour before charting is done. Charting is done 4 hours or less before departure time of the train. For the next day early morning trains upto 1200 hrs IST, charting is done the previous night by say 2100 hrs IST generally. Good wishes.

you cant make group booking through irctc, in single click you can book maximum 6 person. An individual can book only up to six passengers on one requisition form provided all passengers are for the same destination and for the same train.
for group booking contact the station master or chief reservation supervisor of your journey starting station

aapko booking "bulk booking" karnee hai, toh subah 8 baje uthkar apne nearest railway reservation counter par application dekar karwaa lein ...100% ticket confirm aur ek hi coach yaa kuch seats dusre coach main hi ayegee...

one more suggestion, since you people are 120 in no. you can explore the optiion of having a full coach reserved separately.

no. take it from your home or pay rs.25/- to the sleeper coach attendant and get one from him.

at present, modification cannot be done in eticket thru irctc. you have to go back to the procedure of booking fresh ticket & cancel the existing one.

Please take your ticket and go to the PRS counter and have it changed. If there is a fare change, you will be charged/refunded. Good wishes.

you have to manage around 17 hrs by sitting. you can roam around inside the carriage for some change. dont worry, time will pass soon.
once upon a time, there were no 3 ac and all trains like rajdhani, superfast had only chaircars (instead of 3ac) and people travelled more than 24 hrs also in chair cars. apart from that, GR chair cars are ok for a normal sized person.

It is so horrible to travel in CC in garib rath. Because there was no more space between two seats. Railway use every free space in GR.
I will suggest you if you are travel with your family or old age person then pls book your ticket in 3TAC or any other class.

Are the Seats similar to those in Other AC chair car trains?Do they have push back system.Or are they like those in 2S class.Because I have heard Garib Rath Chair Car has 108 seats compared to 73 in general AC Chair Class coaches.It means there would be 6 seats per row as compared to 5 seats in other AC chair car coaches.

no they don't they only give bedsheets in Ac 3 Tier in Garib Rath that also they charge for it Rs 25.

no need to have blanket in CC. AC is not effective in Garibh Rath CC

Blanket, two sheets and a pillow is given for a charge of Rs. 25 for the set subject to availability.
Passing the time is one's own interest, may be with books, video/Laptop/mobile games, movie, disucssion with fellow passengers and of course- completion of long pending (in general) sleep.

in Garib Rath there are no concessions. Already the charge is less than the Sr Citizen charge. how much more concession reqd? one cannot travel free. GR charges are lower than the 3ac charge on a normal SF train.

You will get 1 pillow, 1 white pillow cover, 2 white sheets, 1 blanket and 1 face towel. Pillow cover, bedsheets and face towel come fresh washed. Blanket is only washed once a month. So don't cover yourself directly with the blanket. Keep white sheet between your body and the blanket.

as this qus is asked under Garib Rath, I would like to answer it correctly In Garib Rath you will get the bed rolls in 3A after paying Rs 25 per person.
In all other trains(excluding garib rath only) its provided without any extra cost.

there is no pantry in this train i suggest you to please take your own food

more than one month time is there for you to travel. generally wl 20 are converted to rac. confirmed berth depends upon cancellation at that time.

food service - you have to either take food from your home or order to the assistants of the pantry car who will take your order before and deliver it in your seat. chair car journeys depend upon the persons who are adjusted to it. its not very stretchable but has some flexibility. its not flat bed sleepers. its better to travel short distances in chair cars.

I think you will have a lot of fun if you are going with friends. However, you won't get much sleep at night - very, very difficult sleeping while sitting in a chair. You will be tired the next morning, when the train reaches Delhi. Personally, I would like to lie down and sleep, even if it is non-AC.

The main problem with AC chair car is sitting for 16 hours. The human body is not designed to sit for such a long time. Your shoulders will ache, your head will ache, etc. Very difficult to sleep. Next day morning, you will be very tired and stiff.
Even non-AC sleeper is 1000 times better than AC chair car. At least, you will get good rest, and wake up fresh in the morning.

u need to have any one of the following :-- Voter identity card / Passport / Pan card / Driving license / Photo I/d card of Central / State Government issued to their employees)
I don't think college card will be acceptable.. If someone else is travelling along with on the same e-ticket you just need to show one identity proof, so u can that person's identity card

It wud be better if u have any of the above said cards..
But, I have travelled on my Student I-Card mostly, w/o any hassles (N.B.-its a Central Govt. university).
So it should not be a problem.

The Garib Rath is a novel concept introduced in India. Nowhere else in the world do you find such a high-quality low-cost train service, that is poor-man friendly. Kudos to Indian Railways.

Indian Railways, Politicians are cheating public.
The facts are the following
1. Energy expenditure by Indian railways is only 19%.
2. In Europe, trains are either heater in winter & AC in Summer, the energy expenditure is comparable about 20%.
3. Middle class needs Class configuaration similar to Garibrath on most trains. The price there is resonable & profitable for railways. Thats why they introduced this concept.

You can travel in Rajdhani Express. Garib Rath is not meant for you.

If you are travelling for short to medium distance, its not bad. Garibh rath is truely the value for money.
