Tatanagar- Alappuzha Alleppey Express-Slip/18189

This train has a long history. PKV Sir can explain it better.

Extended from MAS to ALLP I guess. The other part ran rill bokaro.

As far as I know.. .this train was originally introduced as Howrah-Madras Express.

A couple of trains have been extended till Alleppy - the Bokaro Steel City -
Madras Exp. and the Madras - Cochin Exp. The time-table does not show any
train using the Alleppy-Quilon route.

Right. Introduced originally as 89/90 Howrah-Madras Express, it underwent the following changes in originating and terminating points
Howrah to Tatanagar to Bokaro to Dhanbad (in that order). (However slip coaches to Tatanagar continued)
Madras to Alleppey, first via Perambur to avoid loco reversal and then again via Madras Central.

The TATANAGAR/BOKARO -MADRAS Exp [Tr no:8689 at that time] Extended to ALLEPPEY from July 1991 onwards.

This was Chennai - Bokaro Steel City express which was later made Alleppey Bokaro express and then was extended to TATA and then became Slip with Dhanbad/TATA - Alleppey Expres. to what i can remember.

ya i remember..even in early 2006 some of my friends from ED used to take this train to Chennai and they used to say as ALLP-Bokaro exp only...

Sir Bokaro- Alleppey Exp was not first via perambur this used to come to MAS and then they moved it to PER. however, PER at that time was causing a lot of problems to commuters due the time it used to reach in both directions. Hence re-routed to MAS again.

OK Pramodh. Thanks for the correction. Which means Bokaro - Alleppey was first routed thro Central, then via Perambur and finally once again via Central, right ?

yes sir.. extention was from thru MAS. I remember the days i used to take this to PGT along with my mom from MAS but later when it moved to PER was real problem with PER having no facilities..Tuff to reach PER station so early.. Then we had no options to ditch this train :-)

This train operated through PER for limited period only. Because at that time, renovation, new platform works were carried out at MAS.

Then let us try to put it in chronolgical order
1. Howrah - Madras
2. Tatanagar - Madras
3. Bokaro- Tatanagar(slip) - Madras
4. Bokaro- Tatanagar (slip) - Madras - Alleppey
5. Bokaro- Tatanagar(slip) - Perambur - Alleppey
6. Bokaro- Tatanagar (slip) - Madras - Alleppey
7. Dhanbad - Tatanagar (slip) - Madras - Alleppey

This looks perfect. Though this Bokaro-Tata Slip is something i am not knowledgeable with coz during the run as Bokaro - Alleppey there was no slip in the early days i think.. and then the TATA slip was introduced from ROU and then the Bokaro was extended to Dhanbad.

This train should go via Egmore to avoid reversal.I heard it's one of the slowest trains and in view of that fact they should reduce the "halt timings" in major stations too from 20 to say around 10 or 12 minutes.

if it is routed via Egmore then it will become too circuitous....route via MS will be MS-VM-TPJ-MDU-NCJ-TVC-QLN-ALLP

it is also originate from Dhanbad but previously it was get originated from Bokaro Steel City in his starting days.

yeah & one thing I would like to add that it is my father's favourite train also.

he was went by this train upto Reninguta from Bokaro Steel City & change the train for Tirupati.

Coz it dont follow electric route past VSKP!!
