It was an average day I was going my home town for some work I had already completed my most of the journey by 18407 and was eagerly waiting for Punjab mail to come. Only after ST BSL pass came(#21309), it started showering trains in bhusawal, after pass came Jhelum with LDHs 'Kewal' locomotive on PF4 followed by Nagpur duronto on PF6 powered by our local hero AJNI P7 #30270, after duronto's departure with a brief halt of 5 mins Vidarbha came with BSL P4 #22307 showcasing its mid mounted beauty. I was waiting for mail and I waited 5- 10 minutes passed and vidarbha was given its starter after Jhelum's departure.
Then I heard the humming of one of the most sensational locos of IR approaching on PF4 and to my increasing excitement the LP honked softly when the loco approached towards me carrying CR's legend at its helm, . Out of my imagination Punjab mail arrived with GZB's white stallion numbered #30280.
We had a 5 minute halt and starter was given. (03:12 hrs)
My coach was 13 made and train was fairly occupied owing to a lean season, I stood at door and suddenly felt a jolt, mail had started to move and in no time after clearing platform PSR it started gaining speed and when it reached ELS (2km) we were already zooming past 80kilometers an hour and a felt a sudden jerk, brakes were applied because of a TSR on Tapti bridge, we were approching under a caution of 40 kmph as the loco cleared the bridge it started accelerating like anything , the 24 coach load seemed no big deal for P7 after clearing points at duskheda we were hitting 95 already and after few seconds we were flying at MPS
The MPS action was interrupted as we neared savda where train did 70 for 10 approx seconds and started accelerating again. After another 10 minutes of MPS action brakes started being applied as we passed raver because of a 65 PSR on girder bridge after which it accelerated to MPS till Waghoda and it never slowed down till Burhanpur outer and at 03:50 it stopped at platform.
The best part about P7 was its reflexes, after braking it is quite responsive and ready for acceleration.
The fastest I travelled in this section is by imperial mail (12321) which was hauled by ET's WAM4 which took 37 mins and no PSRs were present at that time.
Now Punjab mail wasn't known as an aggressive train but that day everything changed.

Wonderfully written! WAP7 are in the league of their own when it comes to acceleration from standstill or TSR/PSRs. No other loco in IR (so far) comes close to match it anyway.

I too agree with you..... their acceleration is awesome......... i travelled many times on SC-KZJ by 17035 with a WAP7 in 2009-10........... The way it would pick up the speed was unmatched..... Never felt the same on 17406 with a WAP4.... WAP7 has superb acceleration

In the past this train was one of the best train (via Bhopal) on NDLS-CSTM section. Also this train is considered one of the prestigious train in Indian Railways. But look at the arrival at CSTM, it almost reaches 3 to 4 hour late. Today (Dec 6th) Arrival at Igatpuri was 60 minutes late then between Igatpuri and Kalyan (less than 85 kms), it became more than 3 hours late. I had observed in last few weeks, it becomes more late in this section almost all the time on top of whatever it was running late before this section. Compare it to regular express train 11058 (ASR-LTT) and that train always runs on-time on this section. Is there some specific reason for this train to get late on this section? Is this temporary (which it does not look like)? Why railway charge Super-fast Charge on such a bad time management?...

ASR-LTT vs Punjab Mail
ASR-LTT has lots of slack making punctual almost in any condition except fod time and main difference is it reaches LTT before 4am while Punjab MAIL at 7 am.
Trains reaching CST/LTT before 7 am late/ontime wont be delayed as they will not affect the Mumbai Locals. LTT trains have separate 5th and 6th line from thane while CST trains remains clashing with locals on mainline Thane-Dadar-CST.
so, Best solution will be speeding up the train by giving LHB 130 kmph and reaching CST at 4 to 5 am.
As u mentioned its prestigious train I guess it surely deserves LHB being one of the oldest too.

Punjab Mail has hell of time for maintenance at CST. Even if she reaches CST at 10 am she will depart ontime in the night as 12137.
She is pure North bound train as her name suggest clearly
And about Punjab Mail I tell you one thing, She doesnt get packed fully from CST or KYN. 60 % she will be packed from CST/KYN.
I have myself observed 12137, 2 days back, on my observation I am saying this
Halts like Nasik Jalgaon are actually more important I can say because Northie people living in Mumbai prefer WR trains and but for northies from Shirdi, Nasik, Jalgaon, Punjab Mail is the only option

Yes Bhopal is an important intermediate halt but I dont think Bhopal travellers too are there so much as Bhopal has two two dedicated daily trains for Delhi but just one weekly train for Mumbai.
so, I think Long distance travellers de board at Jalgaon, Nasik itself.
and 12138 gets packed with small distance BSL/JL to Mumbai passengers because I have myself seen 12138 over packed upto Khandwa one rpf his 2 daughters.
Small distance passengers like BSL/JL to CST remain.
I understand making long distance passengers wait is not a good thing but these long distance passengers r less according to me as most of them will prefer WR trains.

This is the daily option for Bhopal pax other options (dedicated) ones are weekly as well as they are restricted to ltt
Being the only cst train of the route with superb timings everywhere this is the first preference of Gwalior Bina Bhopal Khandwa Burhanpur passengers.
I guess more priority is needed in WCR and CR where it gets delayed.
Yesterday even it was 60 mins late st BSl but didn't cover the delay at all and then caught up in emu traffic after kasara
2 hrs speed up is not possible even with 130MPS with so many halts and slot isn't there for 4-5 am

Yes, I agree its not only about people north of Agra. Passengers from Agra onwards (like Gwalior, Jhansi, Bina, Bhopal, Itarsi and between) have this is train as the daily main option to travel to Mumbai. I am not saying to delay local trains, let the time-table change,
(1) Start in the morning from FZR and reach Mumbai CST around noon
OR
(2) Start 2 hours earlier from FZR and reach CSTM by 5:35 AM,
so at least passengers are not hold up 3/4 hours between IGP and CSTM and also not ripped off for the price they are paying for "Superfast", instead it is worse than local trains. I don't

agree with the notion as someone pointed out that most "northie" get off before Nasik and even so why then Railway has set-up such a time table knowingly. If a train is delayed by 60 minutes and last 150 kms. it is delayed more than 3 hours just because to pass local trains then is it passengers fault or Railways fault. I don't get it why many of you are agreeing with delaying train, isn't it like going backwards instead of moving forward. We should be advocating for better and improved service not agreeing with mismanagement of train running by Railways.
As everyone agree this train is one of the most prestigious train of Indian Railways and feels very bad when you see pathetic condition of the timing of this train almost everyday.

It is the question of those 1500 passengers vs the lacs of office goers so priority is accordingly decide

Timetable change will disturb many intermediate station connectivities as well and I'm not sure whether it would be done

Neither railway will strip SF charges nor is there any provision of refund
.
I myself have experienced this situation quite a few times but believe me there's no solution to this unless additional lines are built dedicated to long distance trains...

i don't agree that railway is not moving forward
Ours is a country where most important consideration is huge and huge population.
Indian railway is carrying more and more passenger per day which is also a case of moving forward and 70% of trains are running on time. This figure cannot increase beyond 70 for atleast next 6-10 years because Various factors like weather , frequently pulling of chain , and of course lack of funds.

All Coaches were new year made 2013-14 Made with Bio-toilet fitted in all the rake and Full of advertisement of Maharashtra Tourism. The Aravali king made problem to me to sleep after long honking when i was about to sleep.
