Ghatsila in Jharkhand, for those who may not be aware, is a very quiet and scenic weekend getaway which is a mere 3/4 hrs by train from Howrah. Part of the famous Chota-Nagpur plateau, it is an ideal place to be in touch with nature surrounded by hills and the River Subarnarekha. It has a bracing cilmate and was a favourite place of rest and recuperation for TB patients in the days gone by. Nearby are the famous Mosabani copper mines and a factory of the Hindustan Copper Corporation. The Jaduguda uranium mines are also located in close proximity to this place. Spent 3 days here away from the hustle-bustle of Kolkata during Durga Pujas in the year 1979 with a close friend of mine, who alas is no more. He expired in a tragic bike accident on the 3rd of July 1988 while on his way to my house...

Yes. It's scenic and very good place to spend weekend; though now in Maoist- reigned areas. I had opportunity once to go there in winter. Believe me, you will not forget Subarnarekha ever if you meet her.
