Yes it is possible, Once all the available "Lower Berths" are exhausted system will show "Not Available" and if "Cancellations" of those booked Lower Berths take place later then those vacated berths are allotted during charting to the eligible passengers...

May b they was just one seat left n to prevent partial WL tickets they might have chose the single pax ticket ....
Whatever it is IRs ticketing rules are going for a toss nowadays....

but that doesn't happen with tatkal tickets.

Once I was returning (3-4 years back) from mangalore to Mumbai for train 12620 my status was CKWL 46 that too during deepavali vacation time. I was fortunate to meet one of my classmate (sports personality) at MAQ station employed with IR. At that moment chart was not prepared and was about to prepare. Came to know my situation he called one the officer in Palghat division gave my PNR to him and the rest is what we are discussing as above, my PNR got CONFIRMED .

this happened to me twice in last week
delhi-bza CKWL20 GOT CONFIRMED
BZA-DELHI CKWL 45 GOT CONFIRMED
this is in swarnajayanti express
i guess it was happened because passenger is single lady

SBC/MAS have direct trains to JP..

but de direct trains from sbc/mas leaves in the morning hrs whereas rajdhani/sampark kranti express leaves in the nyt hrs, so can be full utilization of tym for the businessmen from rajasthan..!

naa, no rake sharing.. reach jaipur 9:25 and leaves back 17:30.. so 6hrs delay won't be a big issue, as still will be 2hrs left for cleaning in jaipur..!

If maint is at JP as it is, then normally 4-6 hrs required for maint at the maint depot.

but main terminal can be change, rite..? or isn't..m not sure abt it..! :-/

Yes your understanding is correct. Vacancies in GNWL are not set off against RLWL. Hence in order for RLWL1 to confirm, someone holding a confirmed RLWL ticket has to cancel.

Say a train goes from A-B-C-D-E-F
Say Train only offers reservation for 20 berths from A-D (GN) and 10 from D-F (RL). Now this 10 berths do not form a part of the 20 berths reserved from A-D
As soon as all the 10 berths gets filled up between D-F, rest of the passengers would move into WL.
Now apart from the confirmed berths formed out of cancellation of the 10 berths, confirmation would also take place for 20 more people resulting out of the vacant leg between A-D. (Now this vacant portion of berth was not forwarded during reservation itself.)
