Train (No.15227) Yeshwantpur - Muzaffarpur Express passing VSKP on April 18th is cancelled.
Train (No.15227) Yeshwantpur-Muzaffarpur Express Train to leave Yeshwantpur at 11.55 pm on April 17th 2013 passing Visakhapatnam on 18.04.2013 (arrival 11.05pm and departure 11.25pm mid-night) is cancelled due to its pairing train 15228 Muzaffarpur- Yeshwantpur Express was cancelled on 15.04.2013. However to avoid inconvenience to passengers, Railways have decided to run a special train from Yeshwantpur to Muzaffarpur leaving on 17.04.2013 from Yeshwantpur running with same timings, path and stoppages as that of train no.15227 with following composition.
Composition: One-3AC, One- Sleeper class, Fourteen- General Second class, One- Second class sitting cum luggage van and One- Second class sitting–cum-Physically Challenged passenger coach

The reason behind this accident will know only after investigation. It may be due to rail fracture or sabotage. CRS investigation ordered.

It happened today early morning at CHITTARI rly station near Arakkonam in MAS-JTJ section.

Any probable causrs known till now?

The MoS for Rly's, Shri Kotla Jayasurya Prakash Reddy, accompanied by higher Rly officials, The GM [SR], Shri S.K.Mittal [CRS] visited the accident site at CHITTERI.
The Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs to the next of kin of the passenger who was killed. Rs 50,000/- would be given to those grievously injured and Rs 10,000/- to those who suffered simple injuries. The Minister met the injured persons admitted in hospitals and handed over the relief amount on the spot.

The villege Chitheri, near Arakkonam will remain etched in railway official's memory as "Dead Zone" fore ever. In less than two years, rail accidents there have claimed a dozen lives, includind the one lost in Wednes day's derailment of Muzzafarpur-Yeshwantpur exp.

CHITHERI Sep 2011 Accident.
The yesterdays derailment taken place barely 200 meters ahead of spot where Chennai beach- Vellore MEMU rammed into a stationary Arakkonam-Vellore passenger killing 10 passengers in September 2011.

Prior to 2011 incident, another accident involving a goods train was reported at CHITHERI, but no casualties were reported.

The local people say the track may not have been in good condition. The train may have derailed because of poor quality of rail or poor maintenance. There are more than five joints with in short distance on the rail. Railways have not taken efforts to change the rails. While a few local people suspect evil spell.

The safety review committee constituted by the Ministry of Railways and headed by former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission Dr.Anil Kokodkar had found that, derailments constitute more than half of total accidents on Indian Railways.

The body of Mr.CHORAN BEDI aged 52, who died in the accident send to his native place in West Bengal by Gawahati express.

The Railways has restored train services in the Arakonnam-Katpadi sections. The Railway staff swung into action and repaired the tracks. The trains maintained speeds of 10 km/hr. Resumption of train services came as a huge relief to passengers.

All the 11 coaches of ill-fated Muzaffarpur-Yeswantpur Express would be dumped in scrap. Rly's would recover around Rs 55 lakhs by disposing of the scrap. The coaches would be sold through e-auction and recover Rs 5 lakhs per compartment.
Beside Rly would also claim Rs 3-4 lakhs as compensation for every damaged coach. In total, Rly's is likely to recover around Rs 4 crore from the damaged coaches though Rs 11.5 crore was spend.

Railways is grossly under powered is what i read in a report submitted by a committee and i am sure if a "SAFETY AUDIT" is done,more such shocking facts would come to light.The problem is there is no accountability,everyone keeps passing the "BUCK" like musical chairs and the rate at which issues related to safety are implemented there would be a "MUZAFFARPUR - YESHWANTPUR" and when you question the Government and the Ministry.....they would Spin the story against you as if you are a some useless individual who has no other job to crucify them for not doing their job.In India life is cheap.The Railways....cares but not as much as it should be.

Yes in print media mentioned it was doing 103 Kmph at the time of accident...Only Update is that the line is almost restored and should be fully open by late evening...

AJJ - KPD is 120kmph sector i believe.. there are no TSR at chitteri also if i am right...

Aaw, the drama just begun.

I doubt NO sabotage.. but more goes on negligence.. believe me MAS to KPD section is prone to rail fractures so often.. I still remember when i was on-board MAS-SSPN exp to SBC.. The train suddenly was halted before tiruvalangadu and then did not move for over 2 hours.. Well the reason was a rail fracture which was found just in time by a gang man... Cheran crossed it good speed but escaped and Yercaud was stopped on time..

They will checking the previous passed train and then try getting some clue. Some change in running pattern or sound would have been observed by the previous trains LP.

These tracks are over-utilised.....Even if passenger trains are not running there are plenty of Goods...Daily 1 Hr block should be taken by Sr Section Engineer for maintenance b/w every pair of station b/w Arakkonam-Jolarpettai..like the same thing being done b/w Mughal Sarai & Allahabad...thats why we can observe trains normally take 6.5 Hr to cover 153 km in NCR because they're giving more priority to safety than punctuality..But in SR,rarely any train will be delayed even goods also run on time...thats the reason for such deadly mishap...Zero Time for Engineering & Traffic Maintenance.

yes, this pic says all, looks like the AC coaches bore the brunt and most of the injured also seem to be from the ac compartments, one more instance which shows AC compartments are a lot riskier than sleepers when it comes to accidents. Seen this many times now.

The accident took place at CHETTARI where VELLORE bound MEMU rammed into the passenger train some years before.

The accident took place at CHITTERI 8 km after AJJ from MAS side of MAS-JTJ section. RU-KPD through AJJ affected but RU-KPD through TIRUPATI not affected.

A CRS (Commissioner of Railway Safety) or an ACRS (Assistant Commissioner of Railway Safety) will be appointed by the Railway Board to investigate the causes of the accident. And only after he submits his report in 3/4 months will the cause(s) of the derailment be known.

according to my knowledge,it should be the failure of track maintenance work.

The fault occurred on both side. Both LP & Track.

LP cant do any thing if there is track problems and no caution order is given to him... Else he should have seen something and failed to apply brakes on time. But see dude, even if he sees such and apply Emergency braking its tough to bring it stop before the thing ( like track removed ) as its a High speed zone
