I have not Visited Shimla for last 12-14 Years but when my family used to live there there was a Station called shimla extension which was next and last station from main shimla station. Most people used that as its near to Bus stand and Lift.

Me and one of my closest buddy gonna take ride of this on 17/7/12, right from Shimla to Kalka..
It's the first time for us, we've reserved 2 seats in first class . It cost too huge the the general, Rs. 200 per seat.

Not that good a train compared to others on the route..best are the Shivalik Deluxe and the Rail Motor..!!

about a couple of years back,the fare for this train in 2s from sml to klk was less than 20rs. Now they have incremented it on account of hill railways. Not to be rude but this is the least priority train in this stretch. Stops at all stations and no catering either.

i don't think it will have so many seats..usually a 2nd Sitting coach in this train has only 30 seats...and it has total 3 such coaches...it also has a First Class...which has approx 16 seats..!!
and above all it is a very slow train..in the month of Feb..it occasionally gets cancelled due to bad weather..even if it runs and u want to go for scenic beauty and all..its of no use bcs its gets dark at around 5:30pm..its better to go to Kalka by road..!!

Nitish, if you are planning to visit shimla in 1st week of December then you should wait a little and visit Shimla in the last week of December. You will enjoy the Christmas fever there as its celebrated there plus you will experience snowfall also. Its the busiest season.

In EMU's 1 power car is required for 3 coaches so for an EMU 12 coaches in length will have 4 power cars.
Whereas for MEMU's 1 power car is needed for 4 coaches.
So i am guessing MEMU's generates more power (OR they are more powerful) than EMU's. Thats why MEMU's are normally 16-20 coaches long whereas EMU's are generally of 12 coaches only.

EMU is Electric Multiple Unit which mainly runs in the Suburban sections of major cities.
MEMU is Mainline Electric Multiple Unit which runs on mainline generally for distances more than the suburban sections. But there are some exceptions to this definition as can be seen in the NDLS-MTJ section where 2 EMU's run daily between SSB-MTJ which is beyond the suburban section. Same is the case with NDLS-ALJN EMU. On the other hand MEMU runs on the NDLS-PNP section which is beyond the suburban section limit.
