This train now runs with a WAP-4 BSL shed from CSTM. Not sure if there's still a loco change at IGP after the AC conversion of the CSTM-TNA section. Could someone please confirm the loco from IGP to HWH? Admins, please update the loco accordingly.
WCAM-2/3 from IGP? I doubt that to be correct. In all likelihood, it is SRC/WAP-4 end to end, with an occasional offlink (may have been BSL/WAP-4 that day).
How is the pantry service of 12809? Do they serve any special good menu for 1AC? Do they serve dinner on the Day 1 started from CSTM?
This is the train that got me interested in train journeys... when I was barely three years old, back in the 1970s. Still my favorite even though I have not traveled in it, in years.

I think GPS is fairly reliable within a small error. I recorded Jnaneswari doing 114-115 between Badnera and Wardha in December (and of course was running well ahead of its schedule), probably 110 in reality with minor error. I also recorded Habibganj Shatabdi at 157 km, probably 150 in reality, (during the fog days, but that run was short lived as the rest of the way the train crawled at 70-75).
may be...even i recorded 130 too during this same jrney...
in this train Ac 1st class should be removed entirely and replaced with 3tier ac coach.....so that many passengers can travel in ac compartment.....ac 1st class has very few seats which is not much used also....isnt it friends ?.....my wish thr should be 5 ac 3tier and only one ac 2 tier...which is sufficient more than enough for passengers...
I think in all Howrah mumbai bound trains leaving ac express duronto n all.....thr should be 5 ac3tiers and one or two ac2tiers....ac 1st class is totally wastage...soemtimes it goes entire empty....though thr r many who have rac or waiting in 3tier ac
Sir is logic ke hisab se to sab AC nd sleeper remove kar ke only GS class add kar dene chaiye sab train me bcz sabse jayda pax GS class me he Atty hai ,,
Janaab aapki baat bhi sahi hai lekin general class aur sleeper me abhi kiraya me jyada antar bhi nahi hai....general should be removed by sleeper coach
I have seen many trains whose last bogies are out of platform. Especially in general class bogies of long distance trains in Konkan Railways.
First of all iss train mein SLR jo ki avi 20 seat ki h & sath mein disabled h use hatake intercity type k SLR lagane chahiye With 60 seats...20 seats are not enough for RMS operation. This is the primary Mail train in 1976 km Howrah Mumbai The very important route via Nagpur.
It has a full 1A coach. If you check carefully, even 2A in this train is not fully occupied till October. And, it is the most prestigious train in this route. 1A may not be removed completely but can be augmented with 2A like 1A cum 2A.
My 3 years old sketch of HWH MUMBAI MAIL, which was lying in dust...

I love SER Train Boards :)
A super clash between two legendary trains connecting the important metros of India : Mumbai and Kolkatta. I was lucky enough to capture this and I was unaware of the Gitanjali Express which was coming from behind. Now with CSTM CR line all set to get AC'fied, this could well be the last few days with these two trains with their WCAM link. Both these trains are expected to be upgraded to the respective WAP4/5/7 link. Both the trains were powered by KYN WCAM3. Thanks for the hello WCAM's.
Trains : 12860 HWH CSTM Gitanjali Express and 12809 CSTM HWH Mail (via Nagpur).
Location : Bhandup, CR
Both the trains follow the route : Dadar, Kalyan, Nashik Road, Bhusaval, Akola, Badnera,
A single loco should be expected to run thru the entire 1966 km stretch, no change enroute (except the additions/substraction at Kasara/Igatpuri).
That was my thought as well. While Gitanjali has yellow plate (ECoR), Mumbai Mail has red (SER), the first train was shorter and had fewer AC coaches than Mumbai Mail (24-coacher, 6 AC).
