conflict of interest. Bus companies are owned by politicians or they have a stake in it and why would they take decisions to ruin them by introducing needed train.

I agree bt same situation prevails in Punjab & Bihar, where State Transport do hav direct entry by Private Lobby hold by Politician..in Punjab, its parallel with Roadways (while majority is PVT) while Bihar do hav approx Nil State Transport & complete Road been hijacked by those bus lobby..& u can c train count there!!
Bt even thn, bth places do hav remote Stations/District whch dnt hav enough direct Rail connection but nearby major rail heads...cz they exist Zig-Zag (whch mostly been termed Bus-Lobby impact by few bloggers for South)!!

It's not just "termed as Bus lobby impact", it is the reality. In KA, it's not just remote places which don't have direct connectivity, but many major stations lying on mainlines don't have good intra-state connectivity ( Also, density of railway lines in KA is much less than the northern states). Places like BAY, BJP, BGM, MAQ don't have good intra-state connectivity. Even if direct trains are available, they take long round-about routes even when direct shorter routes are available. In reference to the original post, SCR and SR had proposed rail connectivity to VSG several times in the past ( SCR operated the line till SWR's formation in 2003 and operated regular MG services to YPR and other places on MG) but were turned down by SWR. Infra getting utilized at peak..simply cnt b lamed blogging over here...been single line heavy gradient section..its bound to routine check-ups whch remain as 8 hrs a day for single track!! The slow movement make track clearance a slow process whch enforce Slip Service deployment, as feasible!!
MG era Freight comparison too shld b made..to get a clear vision abt track utilization..nw to nullify freight is out of quest!!

there is difference between north and south of this country. Rapid expansion of service sector in south of India meant that the general purchasing power of an average Indian in south was greater than that in north, making bus transport a regular,feasible option for passengers, and a profitable option for private players owing to high fares.
This isn't possible unfortunately in north, and for politicians to stay in power without doing significant developmental work the easiest option is to ask for more routes/trains to mumbai/delhi/bangalore etc.

mumbai-pune and mumbai-nashik are similar steep limited infra lines which are overloaded beyond its limit. Both the lines carry around 150% of its capacity, yet more trains are added there.
The thing with Braganza ghat that irks people is shit load of freights are operated by SWR for milking revenue due to port in goa but ask them for a single passenger train and suddenly lines get full.
There are ghat sections in India which have a far better ratio of passenger to freight while maintaining profitablity.

But when asked for a train to VSG from SBC the replies are
1 Ghat constraints
2 Running short of rake and maintenance facilities.

If really SWR is shortage of rake,insted of YPR-PVR Bi weekly spl they can run YPR-PVR weekly and YPR-VSG weekly right
Same in case of UBL-MAS bi weekly spl,there is long demand to run UBL-MAQ but says ghat constraints,HMRDA constraints and rake constrants and no approval from KR and SR.
Whom to blame and what to do here.
Initially KOP-HYB was bi weekly with scr rake,after introduction scr asked VSG bi weekly in slot of KOP-HYB but rejected at higher meetings so scr proposed to make daily by changing rsa patterns of mahalaxmi and KOP exp.
When SCR asked for KCG-VSG when gowda was RM they gave route via CBE-MAJN - Karwar - MAO - VSG

I mean both have an impact and are inter-related. There is considerable political influence at play and the zone is also reluctant to expand operations. I am just saying that the zone is not completely blameless and there has been a serious lack of efforts from the zone regarding this section.
Infrastructure usage is not at a peak. It is far from optimal. No one is asking for round the clock services. the maximum train (apparently 6) count is met on all the days. For trains from HWH/HYB/MAS the respective zones had agreed to provide the rakes and the loco links for the GTL-VSG stretch will be mostly provided by SCR, removing a burden from the zone in providing rakes and loco links.
While it is a very challenging ghat section ( the ruling gradient is the same as the Kasara ghats!), routine maintenance is never done by blocking the line. The capacity of the line is only determined by the slowest section, in this case the CLR-QLM section ( which again has 3 spots with sidings for enabling cross-overs). The same point (regarding the maximum capacity) has been mentioned by the zone in the HMRDA agreement on the Shiradi ghats also.
There are some infrastructural constraints and political limitations, but the zone is not entirely blameless in it's method of handling this section. Even with existing limitations, there is still quite some good services that can be provided to people.

Ok they say running trains to VSG via LD is tough but what about via KR, VSG is the only major railhead for SWR in GOA they earn a lot due to its port than why don't they insist KR for extending some MAO trains to VSG. SWR supplies rakes and even loco for Konkan Kanya and Mandovi and trains like Goa SK, MAO ERS and MAO Rajdhani can be transferred to VSG.
