A long distance train getting downgraded :(

some slack is added ... i think railways have to add slack because of kr ..

Still a long distance train needs to be SF so that it maintains good speed enroute....otherwise journey will be a long one :(

Whats happening with IR two SFs being degraded to Express...Its Loosing additional income,but strange thing is no change in TT.

Na VSKP-LTT Via SC also now is going to downgraded to Express after frequency increase to Daily..click here

Tapti Ganga's SF status already withdrawn last year after extending it to CPR from BSB (Old Nos 12945/46) - Current Nos 19045/46.

Probably to pave the way for more stoppages and a relaxed TT from July 1st.

The train is averaging out 55 sir, even a slight slow down will bring it to M/E category. Probably a relaxation in TT due to internal reasons is on cards. Thats all we can speculate.

Dont think IR would be generous enough to keep travelling time as same, Along with travelling time stops would also increase :(

I take such a degradation as a welcome step. You'd pay less. Travel time won't change much. Whats so bad in a M/E averaging 54 or 53? :)

This may be to accommodate new 4 trains introduced in the budget that is Bi-weekly Mumbai-KCVL, Delhi-KCVL weekly (mostly following Mangala route) and increase of SK, Kerala to bi-weekly Because 12997/SKK/1220 all share same path on different days from KCVL through konkan up to Panvel. This will be cleared when new TT is out on July 1st. IR have stated that it is effective from November 1st means Monson TT in KRC will be over by October 31 and moreover the new train are usually inaugurated around deevali-to-April /May season only.

The intent is questionable. We live in an era where there is a wild race for getting LHBs and speeding up of trains is seen as the next step into the future. But I would also agree with you, that passengers would now pay less and they anyways don't care about the speed being 55 or 54.....

apart frm increase in stoppages and reduce in speed, dis train ll get less priority compared to now.... esp. in konkan region...

I am hoping for a miracle here.... that IR is slowly setting itself to raise the min required speeds in SF category to 60 kmph +......

In our Indian Railways there are many trains which are eligible for the similar kind of action ( " Scrapping of SF status") & this would be the first example according to me .

Close to impossible miracle that is. Thousands of trains will degrade. A huge chunk of numbering system will collapse. And for the monetary aspect, a loss of 30 x number of passengers per train per trip will definitely amount to something HUGE. Something IR isn't prepared for, at the moment.

Agreed. But can't IR raise the avg speed of every train by mere 5 km/hr? It would mean just speeding up d SF trains by an hour to Max 2 hours. It will mean much more to IR by fuel savings..... and also proper Rake availability....

It can't be, sir. Every train is tightly fitted in its schedule. There's a train departing 10 mins before it and there's one 10 mins later. Speed up/slowdown is tough in such jampacked situations. But lets hope it does happen wherever possible in near future, in fact ASAP! :)

Its even more surprising that this SF train has been demoted to ordinary when in facts it has to be speeded up owing to speeding up of MAJN SRR TVC stretch...

Yep.... true.... This is where IR has such beautiful opportunities..... Every year trains are squeezed into... They have ample time for proper revamp...

foolish decision.......infact this train should have been speeded up by an hr after MAJN-SRR electrification...........vry bad decision by WR...and will surely repent it
