Why this train always has a late departure from SBC? Always leaves SBC after midnight. On Friday it left SBC around 02:00....but arrived MAS 1 hr late...
A small report on a smaller journey After the Mysore trip had to return on saturday evening for attending an exam on sunday in Bangalore. At 6:15PM on saturday my mom had called up and i asked her to book by Night queen passenger so that anyway I can reach by morning. But that train was in waitlist 6:45PM-We left out Work place and started our way towards our Hotel room by car-At 7:15PM reached the room 7:40PM As I refreshed myself and packed things, saw that time was 7:40-Suddenly struck me-Kaveri is at 8:30PM and station just 10 mins walk away 7:50... PM Called up home asking mom to cancel the ticket, went straight down at 7:50 and asked the waiter to get something in 5 mins time-In 4 mins got nice Veg Biriyani and made a dash to the station at 8:05PM 8:15Pm-Mysore station-UR copunter was free and took the ticket-At 8:20PM was in a cosy SLB berth of S-12 of 16221 Sharp at 8:30PM the train jerked-thanks to its CBC coupling-Suddenly remembered that I hadnt seen the loco yet-tried looking out of the curves We moved slowly and steadily and at 8:45PM we pulled into Naganhalli-saw the signal on the curve at red and opposite at green means the Mysore Queen Chamundi Express would pass us soon. The curve also showed the loco link in LHF mode as WDP-4 The KJM Alco hauled Chamundi Express accelerated past us and I just thought the train able to runs its distance in time despite the innumerous halts enroute-at 8:55PM we started again Srirangapatna was blasted past and we came to Pandavapura-No none in the SUB, I took opportunity to strech myself in SLB keeping my eyes out of the window-In meantime my co-passenger on SL came and asked "This is Bangalore train right-why in Pandavapura"(Pandavapura by road falls on Mysore-Channarayapatna route deviated at Srirangapatna)-I said no issues its going to Bangalore so you can sleep After Pandavapura I again started my calculations which came to a conclusion that the last train on the strech 16517 would most likely meet us well before doubled strech. As we neared Yeliyur, we were slowed down at outer to let the Bangalore-Mysore pass enter in and we accelerated past it through Yeliyur At 9:50Pm we reached Mandya where the display indicated 16517 arriving at 22:20hrs-so we had time till Maddur to cross the same. Doubling work, land levelling all progressing well on strech, we also tried to blats and reached up to 95kmph but the coach didnt tolerate that speed with all ladders and berths jerking in that speed. CBC issue or coach issue-Coach was 09xxx Reached Maddur at 10:05Pm and to my surprise, the signal turned green-Well we are escaping the crossing halt with one of the fastest train on Bangalore-Mysore strech as next halt is Settihally where doubling starts and we need not wait for anyone Slowed down at Settihally crossing the interlocks and again we spe dup when saw light around corner-16517 came with KJM Alco and had an average speed crossing where relative speed would have been at about 140kmph Slowly we progressed and entered Channapatna when again opposite track showed green-Just as we stopped wDM-3A 18764R from Pune shed went past us with the 01036 Renigunta-Mysore special Our run show continued and after Ramnagara I assumed next halt at Bidadi-From 44 km milestone at RMGM, the steady decrease came down to 35-34 km but the speed seemed to increase-it was too late when I realised that Kaveri doesnt halt at Bidadi at 10:55PM -In meantime a GOC WDG-3A crossed us with 2 flat beds It was a glide thorugh and was amused to see crossing Kengeri at 11:05PM with 14 kms left-meaning 125 kms in 2 hrs 35 mins. But then entry into Bangalore was considerably slow and we crawled past all points slowly to enter Bangalore City Pf-5 at 11:35PM late by 5 mins. Thanks for reading
Good to see that you have noted down so many passing train's loco links and other stuff though you travelled in night:) Nicely narrated and hope you finished exam succesfully by writing in MPS :)
Great report ,highly descriptive with useful details,Siddharth. Actually I wanted to know the status of Track doubling.Which stretches(with distances) are remaining ?
Thanks sir Bangalore Settihally completed, Setihally-Maddur is under progress, Maddur-Mandya is also under progress, after Mandya levelling work has been completed and lorries standing at some places with stones-The way its going think another year or so it might be done
Thats cheerful news Siddharth..Maybe work is geting speeded up.Should complete by 2014 end. They must be already utilising the completed stretches. Thank you

Cauvery Express from SBC heads into the Sun, while an EMU hits the curves just outside Basin Bridge Jn. By Shankar Subramanian click here BEST IN LARGEST
Actually this is true - there might have been a one-off case when Kaveri had an extra 3A coach, but its usual coach composition is 3 GS, 2 2A, 2 3A and 14 SL (Apart from 2 luggage vans)
Instead of trying to prove that you are somewhat 'elite', why not simply check the availability for Kaveri? Tatkal availability is a good way to figure out the number of coaches for a train: You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code 16221 CHENNAI EXPRESS 8-4-2013 MYSORE JN CHENNAI CENTRAL TATKAL

20 + 12 = 32 berths. Tatkal for 3A is usually 16 berths in a coach. This is proof that this train has 2 x 3A coaches. I am a regular traveller on this train.
May be some crossings will be eliminated as doubling been completed 50% in this stretch. I can think only this reason as I don't see MYS Shatabdi speeded up which means Shatabdi doesn't have any crossings due to high priority.
well that could be in second phase? or could be long distance ones will get adequate slack time improving punctuality %. If we observe then only shorter route trains are speeded up...
No new train-all the trains that ran with RSA earlier are getting extended and RSA will be removed 16591/92 Hampi rake ran as Rajyarani 16535/36 gol gumbaz ran as 16559/60 17307/08 ran as Malgudi Now these will run directly and those 3 will go missing thats it-of course timings have to be changed for same but ok
