Recently I boarded this train during return journey from Jalandhar to Dhanbad on 13th Jan 2014. Certain things I found that deserves mention I would like to share with other members and respected admins and moderator. To my surprise and inspite of lots of criticism she arrived at Jalandhar station bang on time and reached my destination Dhanbad just 1 hour 5 minutes late despite the foggy and chilled weather at North India. I have uploaded one photo of the 3AC coach.. if one sees carefully will find this kind of berths are quite different than the conventional ones(the middle berth is non removable from the hook/hinge/clamp rather it hangs in a inwardly folded position). Also the berths are wider than the standard berths of other 3AC coach and the outer bottom potion of the lower berth is covered with ply/boards for more safety/security of luggage.

The food still remains a concern with this train. Please take enough food with you while traveling by this train. Catering provides only veg food at Rs. 80 (omlettes served on order) which is not that good. This lunch is taken from Saharanpur. You can also take chapatis/rice and chhole sabzi @Rs. 40 from sharanpur if you don't want to opt for this lunch. Keep enough snacks ready as this train has a continuous run from Moradabad to Lucknow from where you will get dinner. At Lucknow you have comesum. Unfortunately many a times comesum guys don't arrive in time so you may not need to order the lunch over the phone rather you will get their reps carrying veg lunch to your coach. This costs Rs. 160 where you will be given rice(approx 100 gms), two paranthas, dal, pickle, and paneer(2 small pieces) but the quantity is too less to satisfy normal appetite.
There is almost no security in this train. At least I didn't come across, passengers were smoking carelessly near the vestibule area. One thing that really annoyed me is that once the train stopped at a very remote dark place 30 mins before entering lucknow. I just screamed at the attendant to bolt the doors because passengers were freely enjoying a stroll at the deserted station keeping the doors open, without being aware of the possibilities, so disgusting.Anyways the train was on time till Mughal sarai, post which it got delayed probably due to aggressive timing given to it. But at night you won't believe it was just roaring and tearing the tracks that you can feel even in the best cushioned (better suspension)AC coach and at least twice felt as if it is going to leave the track the way it twisted at high speed.
Twice the coach was cleaned and i was aked for feedback. The toilets did have tissue papers and handwash filled all the time.
Another praiseworthy thing is it didn't give any deliberate unscheduled halt at any station as apprehended by many of us(for example it skipped Bareilly at almost 80kmph). Only Parasnath is in the list of inclusion.Ovaerall it was a really remarkable journey if i can ignore the negatives.Hope this helps the travelers.

I loved your trip report. Kindly post some more photos and videos from this train journey if you have taken. It seems that even after 2 years since I have traveled, nothing much has changed for this train... security situation is pathetic and it is still known for it's MPS and Cleanliness. I think that the station where your train stopped was Alamnagar just before Lucknow NR. It seems that this train is the best to travel between Jalandhar - Dhanbad, Amritsar - Lucknow, Varanasi - Calcutta or any other station journey combo :-)

Lovely Pictures of this cute train..... kindly provide some more photos along with a trip report. It's really amazing to see this train maintaining it's punctuality when Parasnath has been added to it's schedule and Bareilly Jn is in waiting to be added... I hope that it doesn't become into the twin sister of Amritsar - Sealdah Akal Takht Express :-)

Do you feel that Parasnath, Bareilly and other stations will slow down this train ? Already the stoppages have increased when compared to it's original planning of 5 stoppages en route as a Duronto ;-)

KOAA was planned as a world class station still dont know why most of the trains starting are 16 coach length? Then whats the fault of HWH/SDAH? They could've started from there itself.

KOAA Stn was only launched to start new trains from Calcutta to North / North East India as the congestion level at Howrah and Sealdah Stns has reached threshold level... leave that World Class Theory now ;-D

PS: This Durgiana Express should be relocated at Howrah and Amritsar Express should be starting from Kolkata-Chitpur (KOAA)... total swapping :-D

Exactly !! Koaa is just a suppliment to Sdah and Hwh !! Later trains will increase from here but about world class thing i must say new amenities are built here and the station looks very mordern and it is the only station for express trains which have metro connectivity in the city ( syambazar or belgachia metro ) cuz sdah and howrah. Are very far away from any rapid transport system.

Yes but the approach way to KOAA is very congested and untidy + it's very far from the proper city center unlike HWH or SDAH... I think that Durgiana Express should be shifted to HWH as it will also reduce it's distance between Dankuni and Calcutta to cover en route. I even wish that Howrah - Katra Premium Express is NOT shifted by ER to KOAA in the last days :-p

KOAA is a modern station which has been designed in an unplanned way by IR... this is what I feel from my personal experience while I had to board the Durgiana Express with my Family way back in 2012 ;-)

Kolkata Chitpur railway station:
Kolkata Station (also known as Chitpur station) is the newest of the four terminal railway stations serving Howrah and Kolkata, India; the others are Sealdah Station, in Kolkata, Shalimar Station in Howrah and Howrah Station in Howrah. Kolkata station is situated in the Chitpur locality of north central Kolkata. The place where the station is situated was formerly a large goods yard. The present car and bus parking areas, as well as the path to the station, formed part of a coal loading yard. The present-day platforms were once used as goods lines and formed part of the large Chitpur Rail Yard.
In 2000, the first plans were made to utilise this area as a railway station, since the rapid growth of long distance passengers was overcrowding the Sealdah station. Due to limitations of space, new platform construction is restricted at Sealdah. Two new platforms (9A & 9B) constructed between 2004 and 2005 proved insufficient. Due to its central position in Kolkata, the Sealdah station is too busy for suburban train traffic. To overcome this problem, Eastern Railways suggested constructing another large railway station in Kolkata, to cater mostly to long distance trains.The decision to build a terminal at Chitpur came after a lot of deliberation and a process of elimination. Different locations were suggested for the station site. Three years ago, Majerhat was suggested as a possible location. The idea was shelved owing to technical difficulties involving the construction of a bridge over the Hooghly river from Bauria to Budge Budge. Then there was Shalimar, in Howrah district, which was already a goods terminal operating under the South Eastern Railway. In fact, a passenger service on a trial basis was also started from there through two pairs of trains. But the project could not take off owing to certain problems relating to infrastructure and the considerable distance of the terminal from proper Kolkata. Chitpur was decided upon finally and approved by the Railway Ministry in 2003-04. Certain inherent advantages helped in the selection of this place. Other than being located in the heart of Kolkata, Chitpur has already functioned as an important rail yard for around a century. Moreover, unlike in the case of Majerhat and Shalimar, the huge property in and around the place belongs to the Railways. The proposal has been accepted by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA), and on May 15, 2003, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee laid the foundation stone for the project. Construction started in 2004. The tracks from the coal-yard were closed first, and then a large portion of electrified goods tracks were shut down. Those tracks, masts and wires were demolished. Next, the Dum Dum- Majherhat link rail line's (Kolkata Circular Railway) track was temporarily re-aligned. This action permitted the construction of platforms, station buildings and a parking area to begin. After construction was completed, the circular rail tracks were aligned as before, now via the new station. Other tracks were re-aligned, and completely electrified for passenger coaches shunting (up to side of Tala station). Tracks in the opposite direction, which were not electrified and underutilized, were re-laid, re-aligned and fully electrified for goods trains (with wagon to lorry transfer facility). Part of the former electrified goods lines, which were closed, now entered use as a coach siding.
After these, the official inauguration occurred in January 2006.
