The Barak Valley Exp. greets us at Maibang - Agartala-Lumding Exp. (Feb. 28, 2013) : We were waiting at Maibang for nearly half an hour for the Barak Valley to show up. The popularity of the train was evident from the crowd that had gathered at PF1. It was definitely exciting to see the loco emerge from the distance - YDM4A was in charge of the 11 coach rake. We were the first to leave the station on our journey towards Lumding. I bade goodbye to the train with a heavy heart, realizing that I would never see it again.

Northeast Frontier METER GAUGE Train (End of a Glorious Era) NFR MG click here
.
The Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) Meter Gauge Line from Lumding to Badarpur also known as the Barak Valley, a 221-km railway track that was built by the British through the most difficult terrains and mountains in Assam’s Dima Hasao district was also an engineering marvel comprising of 37 tunnels and 586 bridges that came in to operations in the year 1903.The line was primarily constructed to transport tea, coal and timber produced in the

upper Assam region.Post the Partition of Bangladesh in 1947 the Lumding-Badarpur section however became the only life-line for land-locked Tripura, Mizoram, the Barak Valley in southern Assam as also south-eastern Manipur due to the borders.
.
The 111 year old MG line became history in 2014 to make way for a broad gauge track as a part of the uni-gauge Project of Indian Railways. Presently Broad Gauge Services have began on this line initially Freight Services were started and now the Passenger and Express Trains have become functional connecting the Northeast to the rest of India. Lumding-Badarpur section belongs to the Lumding division of Northeast Frontier Railways. Badarpur is a important Junction from where the lines branch towards Silchar and Agartala.
The video is a compilation of the Train Journey on the Meter Gauge Brarak Valley Express from Lumding to Silchar. Enjoy the true rich beauty of the least explored North East.
.
The MG Trains that ran on this section are Lumding - Silchar Cachar Express and Barak Valley Express, Lumding - Agartala Express and the Lumding - Halflong Hill Queen Express. The line is highly dominated by the Freight Trains.

A Spectacular Journey aboard the Barak Valley Exp. - Part 1 (Feb. 25, 2013) : A compilation of select footage from an exhilarating journey by the Barak Valley Exp. from Lumding to Badarpur. For nearly 11 hours, me and my companions were in paradise, as the train cut through the Barail range and played hide-n-seek with the Jatinga river. Metre Gauge trips don't get better than this!! Part 1 covers the ride till Harangajao. [22 mt. video]

Arriving at Maibang - 15693 Barak Valley Exp. (Feb. 25, 2013) : Video starts off with the train negotiating a massive curve, eliciting some "wow"s from Colin and myself. Soon after that, we were at Maibang outer. The loco accelerated with the usual accompaniment of smoke-n-sounds and then pulled into a fairly crowded platform.
