Agree, but one of the main advantages of 22691/92 is that it's a really fast daily train.

If 22693/94 is brought back, then there will be no fast daily train from SBC to NZM. All the other trains either take fked up routes or don't run daily.

see it's not like that.Listen guys,in the case of Kolkata Howrah Rajdhani Express we have no daily 12301/02 Rajdhani which should be there as it is a fast train. Also 12305/06 is also running and hence no fast daily train from NDLS to HWH.

Just awesome marvellous amazing bre...
A journey told is like memories unfolding. Whenever we recollect a journey, and talk about it, we relive all those memories. This was the first time in 22years, yes, in all of my life that I was away from home and was going home to Diwali vacations, a relatively new experience for me. This trip report posted here is of a trip which i had undertaken nearly a year and half ago, thus am also recollecting a lot of memories through this trip report. Also, on a personal note this is the first time ever i am writing a trip report in this IRI, so i would request all my friends and seniors to point out errors if any.
Before talking about

the journey itself, i would like to tell a few things which lead to the very occurrence of it. It was the first week of October, and my coaching institute in Delhi had announced the dates of the Diwali vacations, they could have done it a little earlier i felt. Anyways, it was from Oct 31 to Nov 5, i conveyed this to my father and he booked my tickets in Air India flight for the onward journey, and Indigo for the return journey, without my knowledge. I then requested him to allow me to travel in train in at-least one direction, thus the onward ticket of AI got cancelled and hence this journey.
Date of Journey: Oct 30, 2013, Time: 18:00 hours I was completely prepared for the journey to my home. It was a highly fantastic feeling, after successfully booking a Tatkal ticket in 3AC of 22694 Bangalore Rajdhani express the previous day. I packed my bags, locked my rooms and went to the nearby South Indian restaurant, bought a Samosa and Tea, and in 15mins was at the Bus stop. My mother had asked me to take an auto to Nizamuddin Railway Station, but trust me, i never spend much on myself, though i can really lighten my wallet for others. And hence not heeding my mother's suggestion, i went to Jia Sarai Bus Stop and took an Air-conditioned Bus no. 764 to Nehru Place. The ticket was only Rs. 20, hey this was arguably 100 times better than an auto, much so because though the bus was crowded i managed to get a seat, before we even reached the next stop- IIT Gate. I boarded the bus at 18:30 hours, 2:20 hours before my train's TOD, and reached Nehru Place at 19:00 hours. From there i immediately got a connecting bus to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. It was Bus no. 306 from Nehru Place to Kalyan Puri. And the ticket to NZM was just Rs. 10, and i reached NZM in 25mins.
At 19:30 hours sharp, i was inside NZM, and since there were no announcements regarding my train, i descended the flight of stairs into pf4 and went to the fag end of the platform, facing Mathura side. I got a good view of the entire station, all 7 platforms from where i was seated. Within 5mins of my reaching the platform, 12920 Malwa express to Indore came behind Ghaziabad (GZB) WAP4 22720 and skipped NZM cautiously through the mainlines in between pf3 and pf4. In pf7 was a Spl train to Manikgarh, headed by an unknown WAP4. 19:57 hours, still no sign of my train, all of a sudden, this WAP7 came and positioned itself in the mainline, it was Tughlakabad (TKD) WAP7 30347. It later took charge of the Shane-Bhopal express to Habibganj.
Still no announcements of my train, but i was not bored, a railfan is never bored in a Station as big as NZM. At this point of time i wondered where Chhattisgarh express was, it was supposed to have arrived at 19:45 hours. Time went on and it was quarter past eight, when i heard a WAPx honk, from MTJ side. I thought it was the Manikgarh spl gearing up for its departure, but its pf signal was red, and at a distance i saw two headlamps coming parallel into NZM from MTJ side, that was when i carefully listened to the announcements, yes it was Chhattisgarh express pulling into pf1 from the GAL, and the other train was none other than the on-time running 11077 Jhelum express to Jammu Tawi, and it was entering pf2. By this time Shane-Bhopal express was also shunted into pf3.
Within 5mins my Bangalore Rajdhani was shunted into pf4, and hence i didn't have move around much and it was shunted in by the same loco which was going to haul it- LGD WAP7 30289.
Jhelum Chhattisgarh Parallel entry, YT link: click here
Well, it was time to go, i slowly trudged towards my coach, it was B2, just the third coach from the loco and my berth was 55- SLB.
It was not the track side SLB, but it was alright, all i needed was SLB and i got it. By 20:50, we departed after a beautiful twin tone honk from the LGD white beast. In no time, we accelerated to 130 and the LGD beast was showing its full fury, MPS all the way to Chata, where we came to a dead halt, the culprit- 02448 Nizamuddin-Manikgarh spl, the train was overtaken at Mathura Jn. and by this time, i had finished my dinner, spread my blanket and prepared for a short nap- i never sleep for long during train journeys. Malwa express suffered the same fate as that of the Manikgarh spl at Agra Cantt. And after that my eyes started becoming heavy, and i went to sleep. It was around 04:18 hours when i opened one eye and saw that my train was slowing down. We were pulling into pf1 of Bhopal Jn. for a scheduled halt. We were running 10mins before time, i understood, but why we were allowed to depart 10mins before time, i never really understood. Yes, we reached BPL at 04:20 and departed at 04:30, whereas the actual timings are 04:30/04:40.
And this time i sat upright and went to sleep, one of my favorite positions to sleep, when u wake up, u don't have to bend ur neck and all to look out of the window. When i woke up it was 05:55 hours and my train was slowing down again, i understood we were approaching Itarsi, and we skipped Itarsi Jn. through pf3, and overtook 15018 Gorakhpur-Kurla Kashi express, lead by Itarsi (ET) WAP4 22972.
Then, within few mins, i brushed my teeth, morning tea was served, had it, and then it was doorplating all the way till Secunderabad, with occasional breaks in between.
Sunrise after Itarsi Jn.:
Then began a wonderful trip through the ghats of Madhya Pradesh, it was a beautiful experience, i took this opportunity to share with a few of my co-passengers, the little knowledge i had about Indian Railways, and that included talking about my favorite hobby- Railfanning.
07:54 hours, We were slightly late, and were halted at Amla Jn. for a few mins
After Amla Jn., it was MPS all the way to Nagpur, barring a few hiccups. Just before entering Nagpur, we crossed Godhani, the last station before Nagpur while going south, and crossed a lone AJNI WAG9H 31405, waiting in the loopline. Just before entering Nagpur, a fury filled Itarsi (ET) WAM4 21376, raced past us with the 2hours late running 12295 Sanghamitra express bound for Patna.
Whenever u see such huge pile of Oranges such as this, understand that u r somewhere close to Nagpur. 10:10 hours, Running on schedule, we were just about to enter Nagpur.
Just as we were pulling into pf2, 12721 Dakshin express bound for Nizamuddin, departed from pf1 lead by Lallaguda (LGD) WAP7 30274, it was running 1hour late. Within 5mins of Dakshin's departure, bang on time 12539 YPR-LKO express pulled into pf1, headed by Itarsi (ET) WAP4 22876.
I observed an orange seller on pf2 and was about to go and ask the rate of the fruit bags he was selling, when one of my co-passengers, an ex- BSF officer, came back from the same shop and said most of the fruits were damaged and price was also high, and advised me against buying it. I heeded and started looking around as usual, and observed that a train was standing in pf5, the board was written in Bengali/Oriya couldn't make much of it, so i guessed it to be some East bound train, a little 35X zoom from my camera told me that it was the slightly late running Azad Hind express from Pune to Howrah. I don't know Bengali folks, it was the train no. on the boards which gave it away. 10:25 hours and we departed right on schedule.........
................ only to be halted again at Gumgaon. 10:39 hours
Due to track repair work, we were made to wait for about 5mins. And again it was a great run till Sewagram. It was here, we negotiated the grand 90 degree curve towards Balharshah, after switching tracks towards pf3.
After that, We crossed a lot of trains en-route, including the 12816 Ernakulam-Bilaspur weekly express lead by Erode (ED) WAP4 22270 somewhere between Sewagram and Balharshah, and 12723 Andhra Pradesh express lead by Lallaguda (LGD) WAP7 30240 at Balharshah outer, but none were better than this.
When u see ur most favorite train, there is an adrenaline rush in you, and when that train thrashes past you at MPS, it is amazingly better. My most favorite train, 12621 Tamilnadu express lead by ED WAP4 22903 crossed us at Warora, and what better than an MPS crossing such as this.........
Tamilnadu express growls past Bangalore Rajdhani, YT Link:- click here
It was simply amazing. A wonderful experience seeing this train at such a speed, it was running 20mins late. Looking at the speed, i thought it would reach Nagpur on time. And then we were served lunch, I gobbled it up as quickly as possible, as i didn't want to miss the AP express overtake. 12724 New Delhi-Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh express gets overtaken on a daily basis by Bangalore Rajdhani, and it happens somewhere close to Balharshah, and adding to it, it was also a request by one of my friend and fellow Railfans, that i capture it. He wanted a video, i could manage only this snap.
After finishing our 10min technical halt at Balharshah, we pulled out of pf3, and overtook two trains at the same time, a CONCOR rake headed by LGD WAG9 31167 and AP express to HYB lead by LGD WAP7 30239.
After this my camera battery indicator started blinking, meaning i had to put it for charging. I wish i hadn't, because no sooner had i put it into charging, my train's counterpart, 22691 Bangalore Rajdhani crossed us. Anyways, we can't get everything in life, can we? After charging my camera batteries for about 1hour, i took some snaps of the country side, everything was going smooth, until i realized, we had crossed BPQ, which means we were in SCR limits.
Now you would be wondering, why i am stressing on this, well, this particular zone has a weird habit, looping of express trains and allowing them to overtake freights parked on mainlines, due to excess freight movements on a given day maybe? Justified. It was also a zone of some amazingly beautiful gradients, but to do MPS through these gradients, the Rajdhani should be allowed to run on the mainline, but trust me, on that day, the worst was yet to come. 15:37 hours, my Rajdhani was looped into entering Hasanparthi road station, not to overtake a freight, but to overtake another express train, section controlling at its worst. The train being overtaken was 18402 Okha-Puri Dwaraka express. At this point, two questions rose in my mind,
The one thing I found weird in this entire scenario was that Hasanparthi road is the last station on the Grand Trunk route before trains bound to Secunderabad divert towards Kazipet Jn. And Dwaraka express was supposed to go straight ahead towards Warangal, hence the 2 Questions were:
1. This being the last station before the diversion, after which both these trains go different routes, why was Dwaraka express stopped to be overtaken instead of being given the go-ahead? If there was no clearance in WL, it could have been stopped in Kazipet as well (the loop KZJT was empty), My Rajdhani was as it is running before time, so even if it trailed Dwaraka express, it would be only for a gap of one station before they split routes.
2. If my theory in the first Question was not possible; and if the overtake was intended, then why wasn’t the Dwaraka express looped and my Rajdhani express allowed to run through the mainline? I mean, I have heard freights being looped and express/Passenger trains overtaking them through the loop being a trend in many zones, which is fine, no issues, but this was ridiculous.
Dwaraka express being overtaken, YT Link:- click here
After this we were once again stopped in Hasanparthi Road outer, this time the culprit was the LC gate, which failed to close in time.
The gradient visible in the above pic was just one of the many my Rajdhani conquered effortlessly. It was a mediocre run till Kazipet outer, where we met 12285 SC-NZM Duronto, lead by the very first WAP7 allotted to LGD shed, 30237.
Then we switched tracks from the GT route and diverted towards Kazipet Jn. for our scheduled halt. It was at this moment i took the opportunity to take this shot, which i call "Rajdhani Reflections" :D The train snaking into KZJ, and adding to the effect was the reflection of my train's coaches on my coach's windows.
Then we were again halted again at Kazipet outer, reason- we were running before time. 15:58 hours, and Guntur bound Golconda express was pulling out of Kazipet, lead by major off-link Santragachi (SRC) WAP4 22349. It was the time when eastern coast of Orissa and Northern AP regions, were slashed by rains and train operations were disrupted. And due to this, many trains were re-routed via Nagpur, because of which, this loco landed up in SC. And as it was moving towards Warangal, giving it parallel action was a freight rake, lead by Gomoh (GMO) WAG9 31017, moving towards Balharshah.
We entered KZJ pf2 for our scheduled halt, when this train pulled into pf3 for an unscheduled halt. It was the 12773 Shalimar-Secunderabad AC express, lead by LGD WAP4 22589. It was running 25mins late.
Seeing two LHB rakes as such in adjacent platforms, may be a common scene in big stations like New Delhi, Nizamuddin, Mumbai, Kanpur and Mughalsarai, but for a small station like Kazipet, it was something different, for a brief moment, i was getting the feeling i was standing in between two Rajdhani express trains, while one of them was just an AC Express.
And at 16:09 hours, we departed from pf2 and were on our way to SC. The next 113kms were probably the most irritating for the Rajdhani.
A scene which i had witnessed for the first time in SCR, a BCNA rake occupied the mainline lead by LGD WAG9 31120, while Bondamunda (BNDM) WAG7 twins, lead by 27875, heading a BOXN rake, was in the loopline, towards SC, and hence my Rajdhani was made to enter the loop and exit from Jangaon.
This repeated in Aler, a BCNA rake lead by Bhilai (BIA) WAG9H 31370& a BOXN rake lead by Kazipet (KZJ) WDG4 twins, 12548& 12679 occupied the loopline and mainline respectively, hence forcing my 22694 Rajdhani to escape from the reverse loop, i.e. pf2 of Aler.
I thought this was it, but there was more to come, After Aler, we were looped twice, but this time, it was in the loop towards SC, conventional looping i would say, first was Wangapalli, where a BOXN rake lead by Vijayawada (BZA) WAG7 28439 was overtaken by us, and after it was Bhongir, where we overtook yet another BCNA rake, this time it was a Ludhiana (LDH) WAG7 at the helm. Interestingly, this BCNA rake at Bhongir had a KZJ WAG7 banking the consist. After Bhongir, it was a smooth ride till Secunderabad outer, we overtook the Eastcoast express, crossed Palnadu express lead by Gooty (GY) WDP4D 40148 at Bibinagar, crossed Secunderabad-Bhubaneshwar Visaka express at Pagidipalli, it was lead by KZJ WDG3A twins. And then we crossed 12604 Chennai express at Ghatkesar outer lead by another GY WDP4D, 12728 Godavari express at Moula Ali, lead by LGD WAP7 30314, and finally before entering SC, we were looped into the third line, the left extreme line and it was a painful 20min wait before entering Secunderabad. It was here that Eastcoast express took its revenge, it overtook us, as it had an empty platform waiting for it, and the platform allotted to my train was occupied by the late running 17010 Secunderabad-Bidar Intercity express, info given to me by my friends who came to meet me in Secunderabad.

After this, trolling began. We departed Secunderabad at 19:10 hours, a full 20mins behind schedule, so much for the all the MPS and before time runs, it was Krishnarajapuram (KJM) WDP4 20040 that took charge of my train, i didn't see it, but friends had seen it and told me.
Barely had we reached Kurnool, when we were looped thrice, and some normal express trains were allowed to cross us, i mean why do u call this train Rajdhani if u can't give it the priority it deserves? #confused
The only plus point hereon was the dinner, Palak dal, Paneer Sabji and Roti, now i distracted myself from clicking pictures and taking videos, to indulge in petty talk with the co-passengers of my bay. At around 22:00 hours, We crossed Wanaparti road, running some 20mins behind schedule. Everybody began to turn in for the day, and so did i, for i didn't want to miss the key action of the next morning.
The Whistle-blowers of Makalidurga, YT Link:- click here

I woke up at 05:00, realized we had crossed SSPN, and quickly brushed my teeth and went to the door, this time around i was accompanied by the ex-BSF officer, his name was Uday. Myself and Mr. Uday, positioned ourselves at the door, with utmost caution, and we crossed the Makali ghats at dawn to be precise. 06:03 hours
We were late by some 25mins, and it gave me the opportunity to take this video of the Makali ghats, the entire place covered in a White Blanket of Fog.

I also explained to Mr. Uday about this place, about the trekking, Railfanning etc.
And then began SWR's version of trolling Bangalore Rajdhani. We entered Dodaballapur at 06:19 hours. We were halted at DBU for more than 7mins,

Finally, we got the go-ahead at 06:28 hours, and we were running a good 25mins late. We reached Yelahanka Jn. at 06:42 hours, still late by about 20mins, after Yelahanka, we negotiated this beautiful curve on a gradient,
And then it was time for one of the biggest curves in Bangalore City, the Lotegolahalli-Yeshvantpur Jn. curve.
We reached this place at 06:56 hours, a time when we should have already been in Bangalore City. And then we slowly crawled into Yeshvantpur Jn. pf1, few people were already readying their luggage near the door, to get down in case the train halted, and well, their wish was granted. We were made to wait at Yeshvantpur Jn. for another 5mins. In the process, i clicked this pic, Yeshvantpur was gearing up for its morning duties, KJM WDG3A 13368 was readying for its departure with 16515 Yeshvantpur-Karwar Intercity from pf4, while Arakkonam (AJJ) WAM4 21320 and KJM WDM3A 17994 were awaiting their respective calls for duties.
Apart from this, i spotted Guntakal (GTL) WDM2B 16684 was waiting on pf2 for its rake of YPR-BZA Pass to arrive, ahead of the 12836 Yeshvantpur-Hatia express lead by Royapuram (RPM) WAP4 22775. We departed from YPR at 07:08 hours, and crossed the Bangalore City-Hubli Fast Passenger, at YPR outer, lead by KJM WDM3A 14053. From hereon we proceeded at a moderate speed till SBC outer, where we were again halted for another 5mins.
And we got the proceed signal into SBC at 07:22 hours, the 16590 Rani Chennamma express from Kolhapur was right ahead of us and hence the delay. RC express is one of the most prestigious trains of SWR, and the Rajdhani and RC have only one section in common, YPR-SBC, and by chance if Rajdhani is not able to make up time before YPR, RC always gets the nod towards SBC first.
While entering SBC, we met these MUed KJM WDP4s, 20045 was freshly POHed, and it was coupled to WDP4 20023.
And finally Day 3: 07:25 hours, 2294kms covered, lots seen, lots experienced, i was just 12kms away from home. While entering SBC pf8, i spotted this KJM EMD, which very badly needed a POH, KJM WDP4 20067 was the loco.
We reached SBC a good 45mins late, but i didn't have time to think about all that, i came out of the coach, thanked Mr. Uday and a few others for keeping me company in the train, and along with one more co-passenger rushed towards the Kempegowda Bus Station, opposite SBC. This co-passenger of mine was supposed to go to Bannerghatta road, a suburb in Bangalore, and i accordingly guided him to the respective platform from which he needed to board a bus, and gave him the bus no.s too. After this i boarded the bus which would take me home and reached home in about 45mins. On the way i remembered my mother had specifically instructed me to take an auto home, despite the cost, but like i told u earlier, i am not the kind to spend too much on the self, and hence took the bus home.
Thus came to end, an epic journey, which would remain etched in my memory forever. For 4years of college, i watched my classmates go to their hometown during vacations, unaware of how they felt during such journeys, well, i had experienced it and in typical Railfan ishtyle!! :D I reached home at 08:30 and gave my mother the best hug i could ever give, it was like i was away for some few years, the next 4days of vacation were the best of my life. This was the end of my 38 hour journey from Jia Sarai, New Delhi to Koramangala, Bengaluru.
Hope all of u enjoy reading this trip report, if any errors, please do point them out, as it is the first time, i am writing such a report in IRI, it would be a lot helpful with your feedback. Thanks in advance for that. Cheers (Y)

excellent! lived every bit of your report. BTW I just read Jia Sarai which made me feel nostalgic of my days of my +2 physics classes and the addas there(I used to commute to Jia Sarai from my home). And the bus 764, it has excellent frequency, yet never saw it running vacant irrespective of time.

Thanks for reading :D Glad you were able to relate yourself to some part of the report, and yes sometimes 2-3 buses of 764 come back to back and still get filled up.
