Interesting thing happened some minutes back.
11013 normally arrives SBC at 2150 Hrs and departs at 2210 Hrs for CBE
The train arrived at about 2120 Hrs and left at 2135 Hrs. People thought the train arrived before time., Actually it was previous day's train arriving almost 24 hours late!!!
The regular day's train is expected at SBC at about 2300 Hrs - about an hour from now.
Now NTES lists only 1 train, that has crossed Kurduwadi. It doesn't say what happened to the (previous day's 26th Sept) train that started late by nearly 24 hours.
This is like 2 buses running back to back on the same route....
I have faced the same situation while traveling to Lucknow from nagpur.. It was I guess 2002... Cochin exp aka raptsagar exp schedule to depart nagpur in evening was running around 30 hours late and the next days rapti sagar arrived nagpur before the previous days :).. I traveled from nagpur to Lucknow with around 4 to 5 people in my coach... No one boarded the train as no one was certain which days train it was... The pantry people sat down and chit chatted as they had very little to do...

Agree with you......one cancellation will bring back things to normal. Already lots of passengers are already cancelling their tickets and looking for alternative options which in anyways is not helping railways.
The same thing was done sometime back with coromandel/chennai mail during the godavari pushkara. When both trains were running way behind schedule, the railways simply cancelled one trip and brought back things to normal.
CR will do less cancellations
During SC-LTT derailment also MAS bound trains ran late for more than 0 hrs,but they did not cancel
And konark also ran late for nrly 10 days for more that 10hrs but they did not cancel it,ven now one rake of konark is running late by 9hr
But yes LTT-CBE-LTT is running indefnite late bcz of less TAT one trip cancellaion make much sence
Running more than 24 hours late and 10 hours late due to track problem in kamshet. 17th and 18th departure
Even a 5am departure would have not solved the problem, this is a one off case wherein trains from mumbai all severely affected. I was in 11013 and it took 7 hours from kalyan to karjat! 12 hours from LTT to PUNE. It seemed as if train would never reach CBE!
Oh ...i am sure all passengers would have obviously got down and tried and gone by road. But then still i feel that this train has got very little time both ways for it to be cleaned and resume it journey.
It reaches CBE at 7am and has to retun same day at abt 8:45
Similarly in retun direction i think it reaches kurla in the evening and resumes again from kurla at 11pm. There is absoultely no time for cleaning/maintenance and also bigger issue when train is running late.
