two days ago..i booked an e-ticket for my father,the status was RAC 71..today i checked the status it was wl 14.my dad asked me to book one more ticket..so i rushed to counter knowing that waiting e ticket is not safe for in waiting scenario..
at stn,i filled details n age as 60..after booking ticket clerk said..110,i asked ..what 110 waiting?he said..no the fare is 110..to my surprise it was a confirmed ticket..so this instance arised a question in mind....

Yes-theres a small quota also known as lower berth quota for senior citizen male and for women above 45 years who travel alone
Strange thing is that if there is availability in Senior Citizen Quota, IRCTC automatically tell the availability after form fill-up page. If you were booking a ticket for your father alone through IRCTC, then you should have got confirmed reservation through IRCTC too.
NO..actually the second ticket was not for my father..it was for someone else..
OK.... When we login IRCTC and find availability between stations initially it shows availability in General Quota. But when we fill-up details such that there is only one traveller of age >60 (men) or >58 (Women), on the next page new availability under SS quota is showed (if available). You could have booked that ticket from online booking too.
