Surprise Catch of the Day for me.As I stepped onto the platform in order to take a local tilll Barrackpore, to my surprise, Legendary Upper India Express was entering BNXR for a scheduled(unscheduled) halt just at the outer. Hauled by 16638(R) BWN WDM-3A, the train was almost running empty. Within 16 minutes post this, the BWN Deemer speedily passed by us again, this time going towards DDJ.

No idea Raam but as per my knowledge, this is one of the most acclaimed train in term of its delay record.
it delays a lot but we do have trains with far better delay records :)
Just like its elders Toofan Express n some other prominent senior citizen.
gone are the days when upper india used to run late...now i see it run right time on 99% of the days...

upper india is not that bad...if u stand at bnxr at 11 am...u ll almost always meet 13134 !!!
I didn't say it was bad. i said, what kinda name is this and who christened it. it sounds bit funny.
well, the train is more than a century old. was the first train to connect kolkata to delhi. then allahabad bridge was not built and the coaches were ferried across the river via huge boats and then again the journey continue. it covered the whole of upper india and was the only train to do so. later grand chord section was built and kalka mail ran from hwh to dli...gradually, stoppages increased and sbg loop lost importance due to grand chord route...so much so that upper india has almost 100 stoppages and an avg speed of less than 40kmph...but still a lifeline for sbg loop passengers...my one of the favourite trains <3 <3 <3

intended to book a ticket from sealdah to sahibganj, 13133 sdah bsb with single sleeper was in high wl. so booked a ticket from sdah, with boarding at bolpur and got confirm ticket /blog/post/695985 . was in confusion as bolpur is crossed past mid night, that is involved a date change. but thankfully got it right. the date of journey is to be given of that from original booking point and not the date of boarding.to my amazement, pre booking status was available 1, post booking it turned to rlwl 4/4/. donno hw it skipped 3 places !!
now to the main question, do i need to book an unreserved ticket from sealdah to bolpur or can i travel in this ticket upto bolpur as i have paid right from sdah to sahibganj...

of course no need to pay....but how did u change the boarding point in e-ticket without going to Patipukur/KOAA?

during booking itself, i selected the boarding point to bolpur and miraculously the availability changed from wl 34 to available 1 !!
you may not travel on same ticket,even thou its from sdah,if tte insists you may have to pay fine(this is as per rules), so it's better you get an unreserved ticket upto bph

actually my duty ends at 8pm and it will take about an hour to reach sdah. this train leaves sdah at 9 15pm. i may not have enough time to buy an ur tkt. hence i booked such a ticket.
Get a M/E UR Ticket from Sealdah. Simply go and name the train and the desired journey leg. That shall do.
TTE will probably not come before BWN or Bolpur. Get an EFT issued from him.
PS:- Please cross-check with IR Official Website about distance restriction in Sleeper Class and/or whether any such thing exists between Sealdah and Bolpur.

well, bolpur comes in remote quota, and not disturbed by sealdah/gnwl...so i expected it to turn rlwl 1/1 instead of rlwl 4/4...no pooled quota in this train is what i know...

I think the train itself is U/R & lot of Daily passenger sit on the reserved berth....so even if BG** ji travels in U/R his unoccupied berth in SL will be occupied by an U/R traveller :P
pathetic to see that this train has only 1 SL....:D I think this is the ryt time Shri BG** should talk to Patipukur SM so that augmentation is done on priority basis:D

In that case, do 1 thing. Go to any PRS tomorrow and get a WL'ed ticket for SDAH-Bolpur by the same train.
Onboard simply ask TTE to consider your case. It would be hard to imagine all the Sleeper berths being booked up till Bolpur.
Since you already have a confirmed berth ex-Bolpur, TTE would not have any other choice but to consider your case.

no such restriction exists for this super slow train. had sdah bhp been more than 200 km, i could have booked 3 days in advance, but then i may nt hv enough time to buy a ur tkt on the day of journey...so let us see if this ticket can do or else no way but to pay fine and travel...
no pvt uts counters over here. long queues at sdah sir...thats the biggest issue...for me boarding this train is a big challenge...

Broad Gauge** ji haste haste mera halat kharab ho raha hain...ab bas kijiye....hain hi 1 SL usspe koi bol raha hain RLGN,koi PQWL,koi GNWL fir koi bol raha hain TTE aayega BWN mein...are bindass chad jaiyye....agar iss train mein TTE aa gaya toh agle din se mera train mein SUFFER karna bandhh...:P

New Delhi se GHY jaane waali poorvottar Sampark kranti mein 13 reserved bogies hain...fir bhi 445 km tak koi TTE nahi aata....so dont worry no TTE in this train which has 1 SL

finally made the journey on 24th march. let me repeat, the ticket was from sealdah to sahibganj, with boarding at bolpur to get a confirm berth out of bolpur quota. i boarded from sealdah. studied the charts before journey. wl had swelled upto 116 and only 6 wl cleared...rest all entered sleeper coach...tte struggled to check the berths. he came before bolpur but missed to check mine and i did not show eagerness either. i showed my tkt after bhp and he recognized that i hd boarded from sdah itself...didnt say a word though...train ws punctual, bt no space to breathe in any compartment...thanks to holi...

kalka is Crawler ???? :O :O train with 57kmph avg, speed is Crawler ? yes in fog this train runs late [as many other train run late] bt tht didn't make it Crawler ,, or we can compare it toofan or lalquila
this new tht train will run via bsb-lko-mb which is new route for hwh-dli ,, nd till we don't have final TT we cant say this train will be super Crawler ,, maybe thy speedup this train nd add more SL nd ac coach's ,,

This is the exact thing that is hampering the growth for IR in terms of revenues/ profit/ efficiency, etc. As it is, this super duper crawler known as Upper India express (as the passengers always pray and look up while travelling), is often late while clearing SBG loop and finally passing inner Bihar.
