AURANGABAD: The Sambalpur-Nanded-Sambalpur and Visakhapatnam-Nanded-Visakhapatnam are among the express trains that have been upgraded to superfast trains by the ministry of railways.
Railway authorities said the average speed of Express trains would go up after getting converted into the category of superfast trains and these trains will be renumbered from the second half of May.
The train number 18309 Sambalpur-Nanded Nagavali Express will be renumbered as 12755 with effect from May 26. The train on its return journey will be renumbered from 18310 to 12756 from May 27.

the train number 18509 Visakhapatnam-Nanded Express will be renumbered as 12753 with effect from May 27. The train on its return journey will be renumbered from 18510 to 12754 from May 28, a media release said.
The Machilipatnam-Secunderabad-Machilipatnam is another express train that will now run as superfast train. The details regarding revised timing of these trains will be available online on designated websites.
The railway authorities, however, did not have specific information about the exact change that will take place in terms of speed for these trains.
Reacting to these changes, rail passengers said a few trains passing from Nanded division of the South Central Railways should have also been considered. "The selection of a few long-distance trains would not have left any room for feelings that Marathwada has been again ignored by the railway ministry," said Shripad Ratnaparkhe, a rail commuter.
Temporary stoppage at Gangapur
The railway authorities on Thursday announced temporary stoppage of 10 Express trains at Gangapur station till February 14 for Magh Utsav. Located in Gulbarga district of Karnataka, the temple town is visited by large number of devotees every year during the festival.
The trains that will halt here are Mumbai CST-Hyderabad Express (17031), Hyderabad-Mumbai CST Express (17032), Mumbai CST-Nagercoil Express (16339), Nagercoil-Mumbai CST Express Train (16340), Mumbai-Nagercoil Balaji Express (16351), Nagercoil-Mumbai Balaji Express (16352), Mumbai CST-Thiruvananthapuram Weekly Express (16331), Thiruvananthapuram-Mumbai CST Weekly Express (16332), Visakhapatnam-Mumbai LTT Express (18519) and Mumbai LTT-Visakhapatnam Express (18520).

Passengers on the Solapur-Miraj-Pune routes will have problems with their train commute over a period of five days between February 1 and February 5. Central Railway will operate special traffic blocks for Non-Interlock working in connection with doubling (adding a new track) of Mohol - Vakav section of Solapur Division. Non-interlocking work, according to railway officials, is the detaching of various track signalling systems inter-locked with each other in order to add more signals to take care of the extra set of tracks.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was right in drawing the attention of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, during the latter’s recent visit to Vijayawada, on the need for an early decision on the establishment of the new Railway Zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam.
Visakhapatnam MP and BJP State president Kambhampati Haribabu wrote a letter to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu regarding growing resentment among people of North Andhra, against the ‘step motherly’ treatment from the Bhubaneswar-headquartered East Coast Railway, which had forcibly extended trains such as Prasanthi, Visakha, Visakha – Chennai Express and other trains to Bhubaneswar apart from failing to introduce additional trains despite huge demand from Visakhapatnam.

demands made by Union Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Mr. Haribabu for introduction of a double decker train between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada or Tirupathi and speeding up the AP AC Express have not materialised till today.
To add insult to injury, the demands for re-routing of Howrah-Yesvantpur Duronto, Kamakhya-Bengaluru Suvidha and Kamakhya-Bengaluru AC Express via Visakhapatnam, construction of four additional platforms on the Gnanapuram-side and third line from Visakhapatnam to Duvvada and Simhachalam were also ignored.
Now, passengers have lambasted ECoR on Twitter for ‘converting’ the Yesvantapur-Visakhapatnam Tatkal Special train, introduced by the South Western Railway (SWR), into a Suvidha Special train in the return direction. A Twitter user attached the press releases issued by ECoR, SWR and SCR and posted it on the Twitter handle @RailMinIndia seeking a clarification.
He wrote: ‘ECoR cheating public and working anti-Vskp’.
Uttrandhra Now tweeted: how long will you continue step motherly treatment to @VskpJn?
Santosh Baratam tweeted ‘bringing pathetic treatment of ecor to Vskp daily still @ sureshpprabhu is on mute # railwayzone for Vskp @Pawan Kalyan.
Srinivas@nivasindukuri tweeted: Train LTT to Vskp 18520 cockroaches everywhere in B 1 coach. Broken flush and stinking bathrooms. AC classes missing min. facilities.
Santosh Baratam tweeted worst maintenance at Vskp under ecor # railwayzoneforvskp is the only solution for better service at Watcor.
Sikkolu Bidda tweeted: Thnku @ srdcmsbc @ sureshpprabhu @ncbn for Yesvantpur Vizag Express, it is like a dream come true for people of AP. Please regularize it.
It’s high time that the Railway Minister, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha from AP, took concrete steps to end the injustice to Visakhapatnam, the passengers said.

Trains originating and terminating in Visakhapatnam will, perhaps, top the list, if there is a competition for unclean coaches, non-functioning of AC and overflowing toilets not to speak of infestation of bandicoots and rickety old coaches.
The tweets from passengers on the railway Twitter account during the last couple of weeks are an indication of the state of affairs on these trains.
Nikita Arya, who booked a 2nd AC ticket to travel from Pune to Visakhapatnam by train No. 18520 on Sunday (October 15), tweeted “as the train arrived, we were asked to

shift to a 3rd AC compartment. Many of us were asked to adjust without any prior notice. How can they do that? When we asked the person concerned to make us talk to his senior, he denied and handed us over a complaint book. Where the hell are we heading?”
Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, who travelled by the Visakhapatnam – Tata express on October 16, tweeted “AC not working in 3 rd AC in today’s 18516. Electrician is helpless. Unfortunate.”
Seshagiri Paturi, who travelled by train No. 12727(Visakhapatnam-Hyderabad Godavari Express) from Visakhapatnam, tweeted “bathrooms flooded due to malfunctioning of water pipe. Need your immediate attention.”
Chandan Kishore, who travelled by 18520 (Mumbai LTT to Visakhapatnam) from LTT to Secunderabad, tweeted: “Bogey not cleaned and also water is not available.” These are not isolated problems but have been persisting for a long time with even people’s representatives expressing their ire over the poor maintenance of coaches on trains originating/terminating in Visakhapatnam.
Unfortunately, the routine replies given by the railway authorities concerned are mostly limited to: “We regret the inconvenience” and “matter forwarded to the official concerned.”
“We travelled in the G-3 coach of the Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Garib Rath express on October 7. We booked our ticket online and paid Rs.50 extra, towards bedrolls at the time of booking,” said R.V. Koteswara Rao of Visalakshinagar, who travelled with his wife Lakshmi Kumari.
When we approached the bedroll supplier after the train started, he asked us to pay Rs.50 for the bedroll. I told him that we had paid at the time of booking. He asked me to show the printout but I showed him the SMS on my mobile, as I was not carrying the printout.
“He refused to believe me and showed a chit of paper on which the names of passengers in the coach, who had to be supplied bedrolls was given. Though I was aware that the printout of the ticket need not be carried, I reluctantly paid Rs.50,” Mr. Koteswara Rao said.
“I was fast asleep, when the supplier came and woke me up around 11.30 p.m. He told me that he had forgotten to include my name and handed over Rs.50 back to me. I lost my cool as he robbed me of my sleep. There should be some foolproof measures to check the recurrence of such mistakes,” he says.
