It is high time to increase the frequeny of this train, atleast to Tri-Weekly!
Instead of announcing useless trains, IR should increase the frequencies of the Popular trains
Guys, Am I right???

@first blogger:
I accept that the route you have suggested is much shorter bu the load factors in that route are very high. The line is a single line between TVC -MDU and again DG - VM and most of it has not been electrified , so running more trains on this stretch may need a lot of ground work to be done.

I have tried on 20/09/09 at 8.01 am for tatkal ticket in SL 2515 Trivandrum/Guwahati. But I got PQWL 120. Within one minute 123 SL Tatkal tickets had gone, besides that 120 waitlist passengers have been booked within that time. Fantastic and mesterious.
Anybody suggest what happened

This all of because setting of travel agents with railways. They people gets the tickets and after that sell on higher price.

Irrespective of the WL for booking tatkal tickets for kayyany - there are other points to be considered while booking 'tatkal' thru irctc. -
1) First and foremost, there are lakhs of PRS counters serving all over the country and at any point of time, so many people book from so many counters for the same train. The transaction is faster - no CC or Internet debit, only cash. PRS takes cash, tkt printed, transaction over - time taken for printing stage is less than 2 minutes.
2) In IRCTC - first & foremost is the bandwidth employed - even DSL cant help you out when the IR server is having its bag full with lakhs of PRS as well as thousands in IRCTC for other tatkal tkts also. First casualty is the speed with the website. 2nd - the process of making payment - you visit a third server (whose capacity/speed) where nobody has control over - like Credit Crd or Internet Banking facility, takes much longer time than the PRS. Unless approval is received from the banks, ur tkt cannot be booked. so u spend more time in irctc for tatkal than in a PRS counter.
Hence I would rather say, for tatkal tkts, go to PRS counter early and hope u get a ticket (the que may be lengthy and if you reach the counter at 0810 hrs, there are quite good chances of ur tkt in WL). Other option is to seek a authorized travel agent who can help you.
just casting aspersions on railways saying there is something fishy is easy and try to understand the process of booking tkts in both ways.
I understand there are some bad people, but the process in booking tkt thru irctc is more than booking in PRS. pl visit PRS for booking Tatkal where u have a brighter chance.

you cant say that going to PRS will give you confirmed tatkal tickets even you are the first one in the que, this may depends on the number of seats available in tatkal quota for the perticular train
when tatkal quota open(08:00 am) there is lot of load on the server of irctc & usually it work very slowly but the other facts are also that it also depends on the speed of net connection you are using, the mode of payment you are opting, time taken by your bankser's site to process the payment,
sometimes it happens you check the seats are available in tatkal, you decide to book that but during your payment process it becomes waiting list.
this also depends spped of the person trying 2 book the tatkal ticket, I mean the computer operator. Generally the resrvation clerks @ prs having better typing speed & good better computer skils which makes them faster to book the ticket
but if you try to book tatkal ticket using irctc, you will find it takes app 5 windows to go the ticket booking page, instead of trying plan my travel option in irctc just try to book tickets with quick book option, it reduces the time taken to book the tickets

In my blog of 1117 am, read para 3 The point which you have seconded has been mentioned by me - "Hence........WL)".
You have added other points such as typing speed of the booking clerk, which i had not thought of.
The main issue is - that irctc booking process depends on internet speed, bank connectivity, IR server availability etc which are not the case with PRS counters. But going to PRS does not guarantee a confirmed tatkal tkt, but chances of getting one is higher than booking through IRCTC.

yes my dear definately you gave all the points regarding why it happens, but I just added little bit extra information,
Lets consider taking an example
For 1078 Jehlum Exp
Its having 15 seat quota in SL & 2 Seats Quota in 3A in tatkal if you try to book it between BPL & Pune
for just 2 seats you cant be sure to get the confirmed tickets even if you are the first one in the que of a PRS counter,
so as per my thought while booking tatkal dont even think that you will get definatley confirmed tickets, also keep an another option if you dont get tatkal.

Mr. Kayyany, Twinbe786, Jitesh ji and other Bloggers!
(Jitesh ji, you have invited me in other blog at 12:02 PM today, extended by Mr. Kayyani at 11:50 AM today which I am replying here only.)
The Main reason for such a huge WL (after a good sized quota getting exhausted) at 08:01 is the 'Batch File Concept'.
IRCTC Agents are allowed to prepare and keep ready a batch file (database in prescribed format) before the reservations are started (before 8 am or even previous day/s). As soon as the Server starts accepting requsitions, those batch files are received by the Server in a Queue and the reservations are completed in Seconds (I mean 'SECONDS') as the speed of the server is beyond imaginations (we can however, imagine the speed that thousands of enquiries are made at a time and we get response in a few seconds where speed of our internet is also a limitation).
This is the basic and the first (non comparable with other reasons) reason of so fast exhausting of a Quota and huge WL being built up in the trains-in-demand.
Thanks !

Mr Jain
many thanks for explaining abt the batch process, but this practice should not be encouraged as it blocks the tickets of the genuine passengers. Rlys can as well outsource booking of tatkal tickets and send everybody to the Agents. This is what is happening now also, because as per your version, batch file process booking is done in seconds, where will a normal persons like us go? IF agents are given priority (through the process), they can as well give the whole tatkal bookings to agents and take commission from them instead of wasting our time and money in going to PRS counter and standing in que or wasting our bandwidth in internet process.
To all other bloggers -
The conclusion about this process is - go to a irctc authorized agent and book tatkal tickets where u have a better chance of getting the same.
Discussions are welcome.

You are right that it is not fair. But at PRS also we can get (do get) which I have explained in another blog, please.
Thanks !

Jitesh ji and other Bloggers!
The IRCT Agents (and their extensions) can create a record on the Site containing all the details of a ticket (train, from, to, date, Class, Boarding, Passenger details etc.) for clicking on a future date.
This way, a Agent (or its extension) can create Multiple Records. For Example, for tomorrow opening Tatkal ir General reservations, an Agent creates following records:
A train from Chennai to Howrah – 4 Passengers in a class in Tatkal
A train from Delhi to Bangalore – 6 Passengers in a class in General
A train from Mumbai to Jammutawi – 3 Passengers in a class in Tatkal
And so on.
Now this file is ready to be clicked tomorrow at 08:00:00 (as soon as the server indicates being on). Once the file is uploaded to the Server (small file and does not take time to be uploaded), it gets processed immediately and allotments are done.
Thousands of such records are uploaded and trains-in-demand get exhausted.
Hope, this is clear.

Again I am giving further discussion on the blog.
Today I tried to book the Tatkal ticket in 2841 Coromandal Exp for 06/10 between HWH & MAS in SL class. This train is having Tatkal quota of 237 Seats in SL class.
I booked my ticket @ 08:02:08 am & got the confirm ticket(PNR 6332743065) & approximate @ 08:04 it showed the WL 115.
So this is the other example how much demand for this train
237 + 115 tickets in just 4 minutes.

Yes Mr.Jitesh & other bloggers
You can check IRCTC time on right side of its home page & any page. But its update when u search a train or any other query.
Now if you compare the time of site & your clock you got diffrence between in two timings. Try this thing 2 or 3 days. You get diffrence between two timings.

this happens to everyone, not only with you. even i am a sufferer of this WL process, but once i realized it, i advice my friends to go to PRS counters and try their luck ( there are still chances of your getting WL at PRS counters also).
There are so many counters of PRS in India and hundreds of passengers (routine or rare passengers) planning to travel on the same train and same date which cannot be quantified here. pl do not think that only limited number of persons will book for tatkal tkts. during this rush period, who evr have WL in regular train will definitely choose this tatkal option - that adds to the number of persons trying for the same train and date. so dear, pl realize the position and get yourself convinced about the reality. open your eyes and understand.

i am sorry to have missed Mr Jain's reply to your another blog. Mr Jain's version of batch file process may be true.
but if this is true, it means that persons who wish to travel with tatkal tkts should contact only Travel Agents, who can help u in getting a tatkal tkt instead of wasting our time in prs counters and irctc. This batch file process, if it is correct should not be encouraged as it is hampers on the a genuine traveller in booking a tatkal ticket.

Thanks for being so vigilant and viewing my reply in other blog.
Sir, The concept is perfectly correct and known.
Why should we go or not go to PRS is one's own choice and in many cases, PRS are also successful in giving confirmed tickets or early waitings. Some of the reasons are:
1. The train or that particular class / quota is not so in demand and the batch files are not able to exhaust the quota.
2. Agents receive delayed signals (I have witnessed)
3. Agents files get stuck up (I have witnessed and suffered).
4. Sometimes, the good PRS staff feed the first ticket before 08:00 AM and click as soon as the Server starts and get at par with the batch files participating in the same queue.
There may be some other reasons which I am not able to visulaise as of now.
Thanks !
