It'll still be restricted to a few Rajdhani trains only. Non AC trains have an Aryabhatta's number chance of getting it.

As nos. of airports grow and domestic carriers offer cheaper prices, rail will become a second tier alternative. It already has in some cases become second tier to roads and the same will happen with respect to air.

Trains don't even run at 160kmph anywhere at this route; let alone what they claim. It'll be DECADES before trains can run anywhere at that speed. IR is notoriously slow.

The passengers aren't looting money. It's the politicians first who squeeze railways like a cash cow and then these so called bureaucrats who can't see the writing on the wall if a magnifying glass was given to them. For eg. Railways ran an empty train between Basti and GKP because the latter had no storage space left. Just because someone didn't foresee the problem a decade or two earlier, IR burns lakhs of money. I would go on even to say that these higher class of officials for who special rakes are connected, who get subsidised accomodation in First AC loot railways much more than the average taxpayer.

When Japan started building high speed rail in the sixties, the world laughed at it saying that the era of trains is over. Fifty years later, Japan's railways have literally merged two of their cities in one making huge economic benefits possible. Whilst the US still can't figure out to connect LA and SF for over twenty years. China started fifteen years ago and now has more high speed rail than EVERY OTHER country combined. India lags behind Europe as well. If High Speed Rail isn't built in India right now, it'll be much late.
