AGRA: Indian railways’ research and development organisation, RDSO, on Monday said that during the trail run of Rajdhani rake on Mumbai-Delhi route, the train successfully achieved the speed of 160 kmph. Currently, the Rajdhani trains run at speed of 130 kmph on all routes.
A team of Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) conducted the trials in October and November on Mumbai-Delhi route with the help of WAP-5 locomotive engine in push-pull mode. RDSO’s chief public relation officer A K Sinha said a detailed report has been sent to railway board for operation clearance.
once it gets the green light, the official said, the train could run on Mumbai-Delhi and Mumbai-Kolkata routes, which has capability to handle 160kmph speed.
“Two electric engines were fitted at the both ends of Rajdhani Express. While one engine pulled the train, the other pushed it with its additional power. After completing the test, it was found that push-pull mode can also cruise like ‘Train 18’ trainset,” Sinha said.
“The train is waiting for commissioner of safety clearance. Once approved, it could reduce the time travel between Mumbai to Delhi by almost six hours,” a railway board official said.

Today (02:12)   Passengers want Tejas Exp runtime to be cut to 6 hours

Chennai: Southern Railway’s plans to run the Tejas Express from Chennai to Madurai at an average speed of 70kmph, which will result in a travel time of seven hours, has initiated heated discussions among regular commuters. The consensus is that the speed is too low vis-à-vis the fare, which is likely to be 20% more than that of the Shatabdi Express. The Tejas Express has amenities like on-board WiFi, CCTV cameras, modular toilets and better seats. It will be the first train linking Chennai Egmore with southern districts. As per plans, it will start at 6am, reach Madurai by 1pm and return to Chennai by around 9pm. Tickets may cost around Rs 1,000 for a chair-car seat if the dynamic pricing is taken into account, with the executive class seat costing around Rs 2,000. The fastest train on the Chennai-Madurai route is the Vaigai Express which takes 7 hours and 40 minutes...
to complete the journey. At such a price, the train should have a runtime of only six hours to lure passengers said A Giri, advisor to Thanjavur district rail users association (TANDRUA). “The entire rail line is doubled and electrified. It can be done,” he said.Charging 15% higher for a 10% faster journey may not be attractive said S Prabhu, a railway blogger from Chennai. However, with Tamil Nadu government increasing bus fares, the train could attract passengers from the upper middle class and above. “Even at 7 hours, it is faster than the fastest omni bus,” Prabhu said.Meanwhile, railway sources told TOI that the train will have a stoppage at Trichy and Kodaikanal Road. The Kodai Road stopping has been planned in such a way that tourists from Chennai can reach Kodaikanal before the usual hotel check-in time of 12pm. Similarly, for the return journey, tourists checking out from hotels in Kodaikanal can board the train after lunch, around 3pm.The travel time to Trichy is likely to be 4 hour and 30 minutes, which will be competitive compared to airlines, considering the fare as well as airport check-in time at both ends, sources added. A railway official said fare should be compared without including catering charges as not all would eat on-board, and added that the Tejas Express fares are competitive.

Yes I had conversation with fellow passengers bound to MDU in 16129. They are expecting travel time to be 6 hrs. To their mindset, they felt Tejas concept is reasonable.
