Why ? Why? Similar names creates more & more confusion.. 3 stations in vicinity having similar names.. different names were better (if that has nothing to do with offensive past)..
name changes with time not problem. station code change is ridiculous. Madras Central even though becomes chennai central MAS station code retains so with Bezawada, Kadappa , Mayavaram. I dono what is the necessary to change KCVL NEM station codes in the first place.
Actually instead of completely removing kochuveli and nemom they should have added Thiruvananthapuram to be fair. like Thiruvananthapuram Kochuveli Thiruvananthapuram Nemom this way identity of city+ place will be retained. In chennai we have Chennai Beach Chennai fort chennai Central Chennai Chetpat Chennai Park, each have own station code along with Chennai prefix they understood these r chennai places.
It will cause a lot of confusion for newcomers. There are still many stations even after name change still using the old station codes. One example is Chennai Beach as MSB(Madras Beach) actually.
Station code is internal for railway use....at least passengers will in majority will not know. As far as name change to TVC North & TVC South is concerned I feel it is an ok move since many passengers outside of the state didnt particularly know of these stations. Once Nemon terminal becomes operational and more states start from there I feel it will be helpful. But yes probably they could have mentioned it as TVC-Kochuveli or TVC-Nemom to retain the old name as well
