Why does 22606 skip Chennai and takes a long winded route to reach Vijayawada and beyond?
This train is mostly used by patients of west bengal to reach cmc vellore (Katpadi) .To give connectivity to vellore cmc and also for tirupati (renigunta), this train is taking this route by skipping Chennai
During MG period, Villupuram-Nellore line via Katpadi, Pakala, Gudur was an important line built by British and Operated by South Indian Railway. Later, it was transferred to respective newly formed divisions. So, we can say these trains(Purulia and Kharagpur) deserve this route.
Both Purulia and Kharagpur SF trains from Villupuram are for patients and migrant workers from West Bengal and surrounding regions to travel to the Vellore region.
Additionally, both these trains gives good pilgrim patronage to Tiruvannamalai from Vijayawada, Renigunta and Visakhapatnam.
