Two women suffer minor injuries, many escape falling in gap between train and platform as motorman halts 15-car local at 12-car spot - then suddenly takes off again.
Two women suffered minor injuries and many other commuters escaped falling in the gap between the train and platform No 6 of Dadar, when the motorman of a 15-car Kalyan-CST local allegedly erred by halting the train yards before the marked spot. As commuters began boarding and alighting, the motorman realised his mistake and, without any warning, immediately started the train again to take it to the scheduled 15-car halting spot.

led to considerable chaos, with commuters desperate to alight tumbling out of coaches, and others wanting to board the train hanging from the footboard as the train moved on.
The local, eventually, made two halts within the span of few seconds. But by then dozens of commuters had fallen on the platform, leaving the crowd shocked and agitated.
ACentral Railway official later said that the motorman had made an emergency halt as someone jumped off the platform. But a CR source told Mirror that the motorman might have miscalculated by halting the 15-car train at the 12-car spot.
The 15-coach 11:48 am CST local from Kalyan was scheduled to halt at 12:36 pm at platform No 6 of Dadar on Tuesday. "The train halted as scheduled but, within seconds, even as commuters were getting off it suddenly began moving. Many commuters who trying to alight had barely placed one foot on the platform, and lost their balance and fell. Those wanting to get in were left hanging on the footboard," said Anshuman Das, a commuter who managed to board the train.
Nilesh Sharma, a Byculla insurance agent who narrowly escaped falling off the train, was furious with the double halt. He told Mirror, "It's a well-known fact that a lot of commuters alight at Dadar even at noon, so there's always a longer halt here. I regularly take this train and am used to the long halt, but today it stopped for less than 10 seconds. Then, it suddenly moved ahead, and I was left hanging precariously on the footboard. Many passengers who wanted to alight frantically pushed past me as they struggled to get off. Had another passenger not held me, I would have fallen off the moving train."
Vrushali Nimkar, one of the two women who suffered minor injuries after falling on the platform, was livid. "How could the motorman suddenly start the train so quickly after halting it? Who would be responsible if any of us were seriously injured?" she asked.
Nimkar, who resides in Thane, and a host of other women commuters then stormed the deputy station manager's cabin and lodged a complaint.
When Mirror contacted the Central Railway authorities, an official said that during initial questioning, the motorman revealed that he had to make an emergency halt as someone jumped in front of the train to cross the tracks. A source, however, said that the motorman might have forgotten for a moment that it was a 15-coach train and halted it at the 12-coach mark, before starting the train again.
"The matter is under investigation and the motorman had been asked to give a detailed explanation," said a CR official who requested anonymity.

To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
