Central Railway commuters can breathe easy with the delayed Parel terminus having been given the green signal, though work will start only post monsoon. The decision was taken after a two-day closed-door meeting, where railway board officials informed CR authorities that the final phase of expenditure and execution of the `924-crore terminus had been approved with official tenders to be floated by the end of April. A huge help to commuters, this will not only broaden platforms to a total of 480 metres, it will allow 15-coach trains to ply and afford more room for passengers to go in and out of the station. Alongside the Parel terminus, officials also gave their nod to the long-awaited fifth and sixth lines from Kurla to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST). A senior railway board official, on condition of anonymity said, “This meeting was very important as we were to give a final okay, which...

can enable the CR to start bids for tenders, which takes a while so they have until monsoon to sort out details as to who to allot the contract as it will again need our approval.” However, Suburban Railway Users’ Consultative Committee member, Subhash Gupta felt that the decision had been taken too late and was concerned about the increase in the number of passengers. First envisioned in 1999, the estimated cost of the project has risen from the earlier `332.95 crore to the present `924 crore. Officials said that the Parel terminus will allow the CR to have an additional 100 services if the plan is completed. The terminal itself will be able to hold trains and the space created with additional fifth and sixth lines will help in starting services from the terminal station and go forward to Dadar. It will also help in decongesting Dadar as commuters from Lower Parel on the Western line will catch trains from Parel instead of Dadar.

Thats known Hussain Bhai but if this is developed it shall be more better also now Dadar TT is having major rake accomdation constraints. If Parel is developed all the trains starting from Dadar TT can start from Parel with high coach capacity and it shall not much of difference in reaching Parel as to Dadar TT...Where as LTT is completely a different entity :)

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
