PUNE: To improve connectivity between all the six platforms at Pune railway station, the Pune railway division has planned to interconnect the existing foot over bridge (FoB) with two new ones. According to railway officials, during rush hours passengers jostle for space on the existing FoB. “If we inter link all these three FoBs, passengers can get more space for movement. There would not be any chaos either in the platforms or in the FoBs,” they said. During peak hours, office goers, students, hawkers etc., want to get quick access to different platforms to board trains. This causes a lot of inconvenience to passengers. By interconnecting the bridges, passengers will be able to go to any platform. “This new arrangement will help authorities keep an eye on the movement of the passengers and manage the crowd,” said railway officials. on a daily basis. At present, there is just one FoB at the main entrance with exit at both ends. The existing FoB near the parcel office is not much used by the commuters as it is located at a corner of platform number one. One proposed FoB is coming up at the Solapur end of the railway station. The construction work of the project has started and would connect platforms one, two and three. Another FoB will come up on the Mumbai side of the railway station that would be connected to all six platforms. The Pune Divisional Railway Manager Suneet Sharma confirmed that all three FOBs will be connected to each other with a central line. “This will help passengers get access to any platform,” he added. He added that with the increasing number of passengers at the railway station, the authorities have considered interconnecting the bridges to help manage the crowd and avoid any hassles.
