करंज़ोल Caranzol (CRZ): Due to deaths of several wild animals on the railway tracks passing through the Mollem national park, Anilkumar, the deputy conservator of forests, has written a letter to South-Western railway division at Hubli to curtail the speed of trains passing through the park and to sensitize the drivers about the presence of wildlife in the region.
Recently, 1 Km from the Caranzol railway station near the Dudhsagar waterfalls, two sloth bears died while they were crossing the tracks at night time. One male sloth bear died on the spot whereas the female died 15 days later while undergoing medical treatment at Bondla zoo.
of wildlife deaths on the railway tracks are common inside the park areas. Earlier, a leopard and a gaur died on the railway line passing through the forests of the national park.
Pranay Api Naik, the range forest officer of Mollem national park said, “We had received information about the sloth bears on the morning of March 20. The male died during the night of March 19 whereas the female died after a fortnight in Bondla Zoo.”
Anilkumar said, “Our staff has made sincere attempts to save the female sloth bear but it died even after medical treatment as the spinal cord was badly damaged”
Chandrakant Shinde, a wildlife enthusiast, who visits frequently areas of Mahavir wildlife sanctuary as well as the park said, “As many nocturnal animals die while crossing the rail track, there is urgent need to stop trains running during the night. A large number of reptiles are seen smashed during the monsoon season on the rail track. Speeding trains cause harm to wildlife and hence restrictions should be imposed on the movement of trains during night time.”

Ab DDS falls to ghat section hai... so trains run at 30 kmph only.... Ab aur kitna speed kam karna hoga?

Aur rahi baat Animal trespassing ki.... Its a small area.... Govt/ SWR shd ensure proper fencing of tracks in this 2 km stretch and the area near tunnels can be reshaped to form a bridge above the track for these animals/reptiles....
