Pune: There was a lot to learn from the students of Vision English Medium School on Thursday at the Shivajinagar Railway Station.
Around 65 schoolchildren cleaned the railway premises and distributed ‘thank you’ cards to all the passengers who threw waste in the garbage bins.
The initiative kicked off in the morning at 10:30 pm when Ashok Kumar Tiwari, divisional operating manager of Pune railway division, inaugurated the programme.

students performed a small skit on cleanliness on the platform and even in the trains.
They put up ply cards which had the message of importance of cleanliness.
The students also interacted with the passengers thus telling them the importance of maintaining cleanliness in the public premises.
Saee Mehandale (11), a student of standard VI, said, “It was a great experience. We not only cleaned the railway platform but also spread the message of cleanliness among passengers. I also performed in the skit we put up in the train and the platform.”
Atharv Tole (12) of standard VII said, “After we started cleaning the railway platform, passengers who were waiting for their train started helping us. I was glad that the message was spread across the people and I am sure that people who watched our programme will stop littering.”
Principal of the school Kanchan Satpute said, “Children are the future of our country. We wanted to encourage our students to make them aware of their social responsibilities. We are planning to hold such initiatives frequently so that the message can be spread across the masses.”
Harsha Shah, president of Railway Pravasi Group and active participant in the programme, said, “The Indian railways shells out a lot of money on cleanliness, however, the passengers do not bother to keep the railway platform clean. Passengers should stop littering the railway platform and use garbage bins. This programme is an eye opener for the passengers and we all enjoyed with the children.”

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
