Rajkumar Lal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysore Division, said here on Friday that the construction of a subway connecting all platforms of Mysore railway station will begin shortly and escalators and lifts will also be provided in due course.
He was speaking at the 59th Railway Week celebrations in the city. He highlighted the performance of the division during the financial year 2013-14 and promised to enhance efficiency and take up more passenger-friendly initiatives.

He said the punctuality of mail and express trains in the division was 98.80 per cent against 95.72 per cent achieved the previous while for passenger trains the punctuality was 99.30 per cent against 96.76 per cent last year.
Mr. Lal said in response to the demands from the public and as announced in the Railway Budget eight trains were extended or introduced/ augmented during the last financial year.
In addition, the division has provided facilities like Computerised Reservation Centres, Un-reserved Ticketing Systems, Jan Sadharan Booking Sewaks, India Post PRS Centres, Catering Platform Stalls, Onboard Infotainment System, Microprocessor-based LED destination boards on the coaches at various stations, Mr. Lal added.
Hygiene standards
Commenting on hygiene standards, he said initiatives had been taken like mechanised cleaning system at coaching depots at Mysore and Arsikere and cleanliness at all stations was being closely monitored.
He said the division had taken measures to motivate employees and enhance efficiency and hence had organised holiday camps for children of railway employees and women employees. In this connection, 469 employees were promoted under the modified assured career progress scheme.
Staff commended
Mr. Lal commended the staff for efficiency and said this year two officers and 17 employees of the Mysore Division were awarded for meritorious service by the South Western Railway General Manager at the Zonal level during the Railway Week celebrations held on April 23 and the division had also received the Accounts Efficiency Shield and Best Maintained Running Room (Harihar).
Meritorious staff of the division were honoured by Mr. Lal. Additional Divisional Railway Manager M. Rajamurugan, and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager K. Anil Kumar were present. .
