All the candidates clearing the SCRA 2014 written exam will be required to duly fill up and submit the Detailed Application Form (DAF) online and send a signed (with ink) printout of the DAF with recent passport size photographs and relevant documents to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The DAF will be available on the UPSC official website from May 26, 2014 to June 10, 2014. The last day of receipt of the signed DAF and relevant documents is June 16, 2014. Any aspirant not submitting the DAF in correct will have his/her candidature cancelled. A copy of the DAF, original and photocopies of relevant certificates will also be required at the time of the Personality Test/Interview which will likely be held in June 2014. Eligible candidates will be informed of the Personality Test/Interview details individually.
The written examination consisted of 3 Papers of 200 marks each: General Ability Test, Physical Sciences and Mathematics, each to be completed within duration of 2 hours. Negative marking was applicable. After successfully clearing the SCRA written exam, short listed candidates will be called for a Personality test to be conducted by means of an interview by the Board. Candidates will be assessed on their leadership skills, initiative, intellectual curiosity and mental and physical energy. Maximum marks for the interview are 200.
The SCRA exam is used for selection of aspirants to the Mechanical Department of the Indian Railways. Selected candidates will undergo a 4-year training program during which they will also complete a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering. The degree will be awarded by Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi. After successful completion of their training the aspirants will join the esteemed Indian Railway Service beginning with a probationary role as Mechanical Engineers for 18 months. UPSC has announced a total of 42 vacancies for which the SCRA 2014 scores will be considered.
