There are two exits from the railway station. One is the main exit that is on Pf 1 and another one is by the FOB which connects Pf 1 to 6 open up outside the Pf 6. But this side is bit dirty and risky to go in night time. Pf 6 side open up on the road which caters the maximum of transport companies and also the regional office of SAI (Sports Authority of India) on this road. Even though this road connects quickly with the hall gate but if new to amritsar and with family, then opt the main exit only.
The main exit on Pf 1 opens up to the vibrant GT road. If with luggage, then take auto/cab

from station premises. Bargain properly before boarding. Or else come to GT road (Don't think as if its a highway. Near the railway station this GT road becomes very narrow and crowder) and ask for any share autos or buses. Buses (both Govt and Private) regularly ply. Share autos very easy available to Putlighar, Chherta, Khasa side. Free Darbaar sahib bus ply daily from station to darbaar sahib. If you have to go new cantonment area, then take share auto to khasa. If Old army cantonment area, then take share auto till putlighar and alight at putlighar. Its walking distance from Putlighar.
Major shopping areas of tourist interests are Hall market, Putlighar, Nehru Complex (for electric and electronic goods), Alpha One mall, Katra Jaimal singh market (for cloths and textiles). Best desi food joints are widely available on both sides of the road from hall gate to darbaar sahib, specially near jallianwala bagh.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
