Got a chance to travel by Bengalure-Chennai intercity express last Saturday. I had no complaints regarding punctuality of this train since i reached my destination on time. The condition of AC chair car( C2 coach) was the worst i have seen. It was a very old coach with blue seats. Water was leaking from overhead ac vents and cooling was very poor. To make matters worse, vendors keep pouring in every minute closing/opening the door which further affected the cooling. I was sweating inside the chair car. No wonder why railway is loosing business to Volvo in Chn-sbc sector. The only saving grace on the journey was food. On the contrary to the opinion about food being average on SF express, i found it to be good and very economical. 3 idilis & one vada costed 30 rs. A plate of tomato rice was priced at 30 rs. Taste...

was not bad at all. While alighting, i noticed that C1 coach was much better looking coach with those brown seats. If someone is planning to travel on this train, please pay a few hundreds extra an opt for Shatabdi instead. Even Volvo isn't a bad option.

Hi Mr. Techie, welcome to IRI and your clearly written first blog piece on the SF-yet-crawler ICE. Yes, some of these chair cars are not that good, but generally speaking this train from SWR is maintained relatively neat. The variety of food, no doubt, is good, but the taste I would say is okay. This train basically caters to the masses, especially intermediate, short-distance travelers, and Shatabdi is an elite one, not for the masses, and the inconveniences that you have mentioned above are not new to Railways and we, Indians, are so used to adjusting. Please do write to the authorities concerned as your contribution towards betterment of the system. Of course, I do agree that IR is losing out to the Volvo cartel, but let's wait and hope things get better ASAP.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
