******Regarding Indian Railways in North/North East*******
The north and north east regions of India are filled with awesome sight seeing and wonders of nature. I had a thought that when Railway lines are laid down to connect these with central India, why not immediately electrify them. Diesel locos cause lot of pollution which disrupts these serene beauties. While laying the new tracks, IR can electrify them. Just a thought. Can be pondered about it. Need your views.

The use of biodiesel is awesome thought.
I urge that more and more biodiesel should be used ..
Even ethanol is very much best for such areas
As they emit less or negligible co that impact ecosystem..

It is a good innovation, though the advantages are not about the emissions. Bio-diesel has almost the same kind of emissions as normal petroleum based diesel. The main purpose of switching to bio-diesel is to reduce dependency on petroleum diesel, which is a non-renewable, fossil fuel. This way, the naturally occurring petroleum reserves can last longer and can be diverted to other areas such as small scale industries etc.
Ethanol would not really be a good choice as it is not fit to be used in a diesel engine. It is better suited for more small scale applications.

While Wind energy is definitely the most eco-friendly of the lot, nuclear energy is not exactly clean. There are several problems with waste disposal ( usually the byproducts in nuclear reactors are radioactive and very toxic, which makes disposal a very sensitive ecological issue).
TN has the largest fraction of nuclear power, but it relies a lot on thermal power plants ( Ennore, Neyveli, Tuticorin, the upcoming TNEB). In fact TN generates almost 1/3rd of the countries diesel based thermal power. And wind power ( almost 7000MW ) fluctuates a lot in the short term, and cannot handle large, power hungry networks like railways all by itself. They always have to be used in conjunction with hydro/thermal or

nuclear power.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
