Indore :  The double-decker train, which has proved to be a white elephant and now also turning out to be an albatross around the railway ministry’s neck, may run between Indore and Surat.
Following its unsuccessful run between Indore and Bhopal, initially the number of coaches was cut down and then the train was stopped altogether.
Though Bhopal-Indore-Bhopal double decker train is not running on the section since November 30, 2015, but officially its operation is still not terminated and it remains officially suspended.

top brass of the railways informed that during meeting of minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan held a few days ago Sinha sought opinion of Mahajan about the double-decker train. She said that the train may be operated between Indore and Surat. She further said if it’s not possible then run an express train between the two cities but there must be a train on this route. After discussion of two leaders now one member of the Railway Board is examining the proposal.  Mahajan also said that if double decker is operated between Indore and Surat, care should be taken to keep the fare moderate.
Chronology of double decker operation Sept 28, 2013: Started operation between Bhopal-Indore-Bhopal with 11 AC and a generator van and guard coach.
Dec 2014: Train’s coaches reduced from 11 to just three due to non-availability of passengers.
June 11, 2015: Train cancelled till June 22, 2015.
June 22, 2015: Cancellation of train extended till July 19 citing traffic congestion due to fire of RRI cable at Itarsi.
August 27, 2015: DRM said in DRUCC meeting that the double decker train is being suspended for uncertain time from July 20, 2015. Sept 24, 2015: Railway informed that running of the double decker train is being cancelled from September 25 to October 4.
Nov 30, 2015: Train’s operation terminated and its three coaches and one generator van sent to Mumbai. Its nine coaches were already sent around a year ago to Mumbai, which were added with the presently running Mumbai-Margao double decker. Under the policy of the Railway Board to stop the operation of loss making trains, Indore-Bhopal-Indore double decker train is the first train of Ratlam division to be affected.
