The Mysuru Division of the South Western Railway notched up an impressive performance in the first four months of the current fiscal earning revenue of Rs.184.28 crore till the end of July.
This was announced by Divisional Railway Manager Atul Gupta during the Independence Day celebrations organised by the division here on Monday.
Mr. Gupta reviewed the parade and unfurled the national flag and also addressed the railway employees. He said the division was going all out in capturing new streams of traffic in the backdrop of the stiff target set for the
current year under parcels and freight traffic as the freight basket of the division was skewed and unpredictable given the low movement of certain high yielding traffic like steel and petroleum products.
He said emphasis will be on cleanliness and punctuality of trains, besides ensuring good quality of food and hygiene in catering units. The division has also launched drives to curb ticketless travel, interaction with rail-users etc., he added.
Commenting on the passenger amenities, Mr. Gupta said they will remain an area of priority and pointed out that the commissioning of Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendra at Mysuru, opening of India Post Computerised Passenger Reservation System at Madhugiri, development of Kabakaputtur as an ‘Adarsh Station’, and opening of a food plaza at Arsikere and Hassan were some of the initiatives in this direction.
He said the safety record of the division was very satisfactory and campaigns to spread awareness to completely eliminate accidents at level crossings were being held regularly. Mr. Gupta said the Disaster Management Plan 2016 was in place to effectively deal with unforeseen natural calamities.
He called upon commuters to make use of the security helpline number 182 so that the number of crimes on running trains could be brought down. Progressive elimination of unmanned level crossings, harnessing modern technology for better track maintenance, etc. were being pursued by the division, Mr. Gupta added.
The railway employees were urged to strive for higher levels of performance to bring about a qualitative change in the service standards as millions of people found the railways dependable and affordable. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager T. Anil Kumar, ADRM P. Ram and others were present.
