Ranked “below average“ in a recent passenger cleanliness survey , the environment and house keeping management of the Railway Board advised stations like Pune to aim for a better score in the next study .
The target set for poor performers like Pune is above 500. It will ensure a cleanliness ranking of `fair' or `good' station.
Pune, Lonavla, and 26 other stations scored below 400 (out of 1,000) in the recently published report on cleanliness at 407 stations. Passengers were asked to rate cleanliness on 40 different parameters in the survey undertaken
as a part of “Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan“.
The environment and house keeping management of the Railway Board came out with guidelines on cleanliness at railway stations after the report was tabled. It particularly harped on stations having low scores. Pune scored 370 and was ranked 391 among 407 (A1 and A category) railway stations. It is among 75 A1 railway stations. The preliminary survey report released in March this year had also ranked Pune as one of the dirtiest stations in India.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation conducted the survey thro ugh TNS India Private Limited. The private agency was previously involved in the annual health survey (2010-11) and cleanliness ranking of major cities (2014).
The Railway Board's environment and housekeeping management guidelines state the key parameters having greater impact on passenger satisfaction on cleanliness in clude absence of stench on station premises, adequate number of dustbins and promptness in cleaning filth.
It states remedial action should be taken at stations having scores below 500. Best practices implemented for cleanliness at stations having a good score should be implemented in average or below average (level four and five with scores below 500) stations.
Railway officials stressed there was a lot of difference in Pune station now because of round-the-clock cleaning.“Stench is not there now. As many as 221 trains pass through Pune. Some of them originate and terminate here. There is night soil at the apron, which is cleaned after a train departs. But some filth remains,“ a senior official said.
Apassenger amenity committee visited Pune station earlier this month and expressed satisfaction over passenger amenities, including cleanliness at the station. The panel is a centralized Railway Board committee.

Pune PMC have to construct several free ordinary Latrines and premium Latrine with cost so as the local person doesn't enter into train compartments.
Pune division also construct free latrines in all the platforms in both ends and premium latrine with cost.Every coach length in all platforms closed dust pins have to be provided .CCTV Camera watching have to be done to catch offenders .Only valid ticket holders have to be permitted to enter in all the platforms.
Strictly watched and no one permitted to enter in to the toilets
in the long distance trains. And so,PUNE JUNCTION cleanliness shall be vastly improved.
