Starting Monday, long-distance trains will play second fiddle to their suburban counterparts
Mumbai commuters might finally have a chance at getting to work on time, as the Central Railway (CR) has decided to give priority to local trains over long distance trains during the morning peak hours.
Until now, long distance trains have always been given precedence and allowed to pass, while locals have been kept on hold. This delays local trains by as much as 15 minutes, especially during peak hours between 8 am and 11 am. This is the outcome...
I agree local passengers are important, but does this move not show any consideration to long distance passengers. It is mentioned that if long distance trains are forced to wait for over 45 minutes after entering Mumbai, their passengers will be allowed to take local trains. Long distance passengers carry lot of luggage. Will the luggages be allowed to be carried in these local trains which would have already been filled to capacity.
What about passengers who may spend more than 24 hours train travel. In the final leg of their journey , their trains might be unnecessarily halted ..
