Nandyal-Yerraguntla New Railway Line Commissioned & Nandyal-Kadapa Passenger Flagged Off
A new dawn has heralded in rail connectivity in the State of Andhra Pradesh today i.e. 23rdAugust 2016 when Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Railways joined Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting and a host of other dignitaries to commission the new 123 km railway line between Nandyal-Yerraguntla and flagged off the Nandyal-Kadapa Passenger o­n the route, through remote video link from Railway Institute, Vijayawada.
o­n the occasion, Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu described the commissioning of new railway line between Nandyal and Yerraguntla as a beginning of new phase of development of Railways in Andhra Pradesh. He stated that infrastructure development and connectivity are vital for progress of nation and the Railways want to ensure the connectivity of backward regions. The newly commissioned railway line, which connects the heart of Rayalaseema, hitherto not o­n the Railway Map with Amaravati, the Capital city of Andhra Pradesh is an offshoot of the same endeavor, he added. The Hon’ble Rail Minister also informed that very soon the Railways and Andhra Pradesh Government will enter into a Joint Venture to take up many more rail development projects in the State to ensure growth of infrastructure o­n fast track. He also expressed confidence that the flagging off of a new passenger train between Nandyal and Kadapa will enable socio-economic growth of the region, as more trains will be introduced in the future to connect important destinations.
Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in his address stated that the commissioning of Nandyal-Yerraguntla new line is an historical event and the project is a critical link in connecting backward regions of Andhra Pradesh State with the Capital region. The new line will play an important role in the development of the state by providing crucial transportation infrastructure link with a belt rich in mineral resources and hosts several cement Plants. The new line has got the potential to develop port connectivity in the region and industrial advancement, the key elements for economic growth of the state. The Chief Minister stressed o­n evolving new and innovative ideas for growth of Railways and stated that the AP Government for a SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) to mobilize funds for rail projects in the states. The Chief Minister congratulated South Central Railway for handling the rush of pilgrims who utilized the train services during Krishna Pushkaram.
Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister, who also spoke o­n the occasion said that the Nandyal-Yerraguntla new railway line was a dream project of the people and marks fulfillment, o­n commissioning today. He complimented the Railway Ministry for undertaking completion of o­ngoing projects, without going in for new o­nes, as advised by Hon’ble Prime Minister. This is important since a host of projects announced in earlier years and needing huge finances are incomplete due to lack of funds he added. The Minister complimented the Railways for rendering efficient services during Krishna Pushkaram.
Earlier, Shri A.K. Gupta, Additional General Manager, SCR in his welcome address described the Nandyal-Yerraguntla new line as o­ne of the most important initiative of Railways to be commissioned in AP. The new line is expected to boost industrial, economic and business activity in the Rayalaseema region and offers good connectivity to Amaravati, the capital of the state.
Shri Prathipati Pulla Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Agri Processing, Marketing & Ware Housing, Animal Husbandary, Diary Development & Fisheries and Krishna District In-charge Minister, Govt. of AP; Shri Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Irrigation, Command Area Development and Water Resources Management, Govt. of AP; Shri Kollu Ravindra, Hon’ble Minister for BC Welfare & Empowerment, Handlooms & Excise, Govt. of AP; Shri Koneru Sridhar, Hon’ble Mayor Vijayawada Municipal Corporation; Shri K Narayana Rao, Member of Parliament, Machilipatnam; Shri Gokaraju Gangaraju, Member of Parliament, Narsapuram; Shri M. Murali Mohan, Member of Parliament, Rajahmundry; Shri Buddha Venkateswara Rao, Hon’ble MLC and other public representatives, dignitaries and senior railway officials participated.
Salient Features of Nandyal-Yerraguntla new railway line
·The line is to a length of 123 kms and has cost Rs 967 Cr.
·The line passes through Kurnool and Kadapa districts in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.
·There are eight new stations enroute i.e. Madduru, Banaganapalle, Koilakuntla, Sanjamala, Nossam, S,Uppalapadu, Jammalamadugu and Proddatur.

There should be direct train from Interior Rayalaseem (HX) to Uttarandhra (VSKP) so that it will have connectivity to Capital Area also..
