The environmental impact of the new alignment of the metro rail for Pune will be assessed soon.
The standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday approved a proposal to carry out the assessment.
The central government had, in June 2015, given a green signal to the changes in the metro route. The alignment of the route was shifted from JM Road to alongside the Mutha river.

group of prominent personalities have opposed the new alignment as a part of the route will pass over the river bed. They have filed an environmental interest litigation in the National Green Tribunal against the plan.The tribunal is scheduled to hear it in September.
“The administration has to study if the changes in the alignment are going to have an adverse effect on the environment. We have decided to approach experts. A Delhibased group will conduct the survey for the civic body ,“ Balasaheb Bodke, standing committee chairman, told reporters.
The proposed length of the metro in Pune is 31.51km.It will run on two corridors, the first is a 16.59km route between Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and Swargate and the second, a 14.92km route, from Vanaz to Ramwadi.
The revised estimate for the project announced by Delhi Metro Rail Corpora tion has been pegged at Rs 11,522 crore, a hike of Rs 653 crore from the 2014 estimate. The metro rail project for the city cleared a bureaucratic step on Monday when the civic body obtained permission from the railway department.
According to civic officials, the metro rail project would require land from the railway ministry . Laying of railway tracks is expected on this land.
The project is now awaiting a final go-ahead from the Centre. After a clearance from the public finance board and a green signal from the Cabinet, actual ground work will commence.

Mula-Muktha River bund via PUNE Metro line laying are a good idea and i have already suggested in social media .
It has strengthen the River bund and cost of land acqusition are also less.Moreover in the road alignment so many trees have to be cut and execution also tedious in road sector with diversion during execution and reduced road width.
Moreover ,In Chennai MRTS lines are mostly executed on the free land along the Bunkingam canal and lesser part along Adayar River bund.MRTS executed successfully and completed in time because of lesser

So wherever possible Pune metro alignment shall be routed via River bund,Rivulets, Canal bund ,Channel bumd and small streams etc.In these route very less Land acquired, traffic block nil and the road width also not reduced.Pune has so many streams in and around Kalyaninagar,Wadgoancherry,Ramwadi areas etc.
Similarly Mula - Muktha River buud alignment/ Stream course Metro Elevated track also executed early without any hurdles and traffic blockages mostly nil in this route.
Early completion of the Pune Metro lines are ensured in the River course route like Chennai MRTS route up to Velacherry mostly along stream course.
