The works on the nine-kilometre rail line were completed by the second week of June
Chengannur: Trains will start running on the Chengannur-Tiruvalla rain line within 20 days, doubling of which has been completed. Commissioner of Railways Safety Sudarshan Naik said this after the speed trials conducted on Thursday.
In the speed trials, a train was run on the line at 120 km per hour. The train had been fitted with the oscillation monitoring system (OMS) for evaluating the safety of rail tracks and identifying damage, if any. The trial report will
be submitted to the Railway Board soon, the commissioner said.
Sudarshan Naik, who arrived at Chengannur in a special train, took part in the puja held there. He travelled to Tiruvalla in the specially arranged rail trolley to examine the tracks. The speed trials were conducted after that.
The works on the 9-kilometre rail line were completed by the second week of June. After the completion of electrification, a train was operated on the route at low speed. The electrification works were reviewed on August 15.
Apart from Railway officials, station master Eapen Thomas also led the tests.
