KOZHIKODE: The Confederation of All India Rail Users Associations urged the central government to lay a third railway track in Kerala for uninterrupted movement of passenger and goods trains in the state. In a memorandum to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, working chairman C E Chakkunny and convener K J Joy said the populist demands for more trains and many more stops leave less time for track repairs and maintenance threatening safety of railway tracks particularly in the state.
The dense traffic punctuated by frequent stops offer very few gaps in between for track repair and maintenance prompting cancellation of passenger trains during off-peak hours and use the gap for track work in different sections.
Quite a strange demand by these associations knowing fully well, that existing doubling in many places is hampered due to problem of land aquisition.
Also they have mentioned about populist demand for stoppages of trains. It is the people themselves who have asked for these stops
