The announcement comes after a flexi-fare system was introduced for Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains in September.
NO FARE rationalisation is on the cards for Mumbai’s suburban rail services, said a Railway Board official while addressing the press at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) Tuesday. This means, fares are likely to remain unchanged until at least the next Budget.
This comes after a flexi-fare system was introduced for Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains in September — slabs were introduced for booking tickets, of up to 50 per cent in base fares for passengers
travelling in AC-II and AC-III tiers of the premium trains.
Mohammed Jamshed, Member (Traffic), Railway Board, who was in Mumbai to review the half-yearly performance of railway zones, said the scheme would be reviewed after three months. “A period of one month is too short a time to look at how the flexi-fare system is working. In the next three months, we will review the impact of this policy on passenger bookings. Meanwhile, no rationalisation of fares for the suburban system of the city is being looked at,” he said.
On introducing flexi-fare in other trains in the future, he said, “Five new brands of trains were introduced in this year’s Railway Budget namely Udaya, Antodaya, Humsafar, Tejas and Deendayaloo. Among these, at least two — Humsafar and Tejas — will have special amenities and pricing, as mentioned in the Budget.”
He said work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor would commence next year. “The emphasis will be on completion of mega projects for which at least Rs 1.2 lakh crore is allotted each year. The aim will be to complete the Dedicated Freight Corridor lines for both eastern and western railway by December and on completion of high-speed train projects,” he said.

Why fare rationalisation should be done for Mumbai suburban rail services only, which is giving better revenues/ Operating-Ratio than other suburban services in IR network? It should be done for all suburban rail services.

Mumbai sub urban services always have patronages over sitting + standing approved capacity. So the revision of fares are not necessary .
More over Mumbai sub urban systems are life line of Mumbai Metro. All the Sub urban fares shall be always subsidized by 30%.Railway s are enjoying free lands in Metros from the British era and obliged to served for the poor and common people of Metro.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
