BENGALURU: Thousands of citizens have been criticizing the government's move to construct a steel flyover from Raj Bhavan to Esteem Mall in Hebbal and demanding a Metro link instead. While the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation claims a Metro link between the city centre and the airport via Hebbal is not feasible, experts have ques tioned this argument.BMRC argues it's not technically feasible to construct a Metro network from the MG Road or Cubbon Park station towards Mehkri Circle anymore as these stations are already functional.
"Who says it's not possible to construct another station at MG Road? Anyway , the Metro will have a second underground station at MG Road-Kamaraj Road Junction for the second phase. It's possible to build a huge
multi-level underground station, as has been done at Majestic. One level could connect to KIA while the other one, as planned, can connect Gottigere and Nagavara," says a former planning member of BMRC. A Metro network from MG Road via Raj Bhavan and Mehkri Circle was proposed by `Metro Man' E Sreedharan but given a silent burial by the BJP government in 2011.
Soon after the Kempegowda International Airport became operational in 2008, Sreedharan and his associate D Venkata Rao suggested a Metro link from MG Road to the airport. "We planned to start working on the airport corridor so that it would connect to the present MG Road station. It would be a high-speed rail Metro where trains can run up to a maximum of 160 kmph. Tenders were called in 2011.Then, suddenly, the cabinet decided to give the project to BMRC," Rao said. And that was the end of it.
"It may be difficult to start from Cubbon Park now. But we can still have a layered underground Metro station at MG Road. It is technically possible. I agree that constructing an elevated Metro above Mehkri Circle or Windsor Manor is not feasible because the gradient cannot be as high as 21 or 18 metres. But the Metro from MG Road can be underground till Mehkri Circle. It's just that the government is aligned towards building a steel flyover," infrastructure analyst Sumitra Iyengar says.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
