PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: EMU trains can be a reality on the Lonavla-Pune-Daund route, provided the railways declare the Pune-Daund section a suburban area.
Divisional railway manager of Pune B K Dadabhoy said at a meeting of the railway users' committee on Thursday there was a proposal for running suburban local trains on the Lonavla-Pune-Daund section. Officials stressed if the railways announced the Pune-Daund section was a suburban area, the Pune division of the Central Railways could work on the proposal of running EMU trains.
EMU (electric multiple unit) trains can now run between Pune
and Daund because the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has completed the electrification work in the Pune-Daund-Bhigwan (102km) section. All trains are running on electric power now on this route now.
A total of 40 pairs of EMU trains run on the Pune-Lonavla route. There has been a long pending demand to run local trains in the Lonavla-Pune-Daund section. At present, local trains in the Pune-Daund section run on diesel engines.
Unlike diesel engine operated local trains which run at a slow speed, the EMU trains are much faster. On the Pune-Lonavla route (64kms), the EMU train takes 90 minutes. The same speed can be attained on the 76km Pune-Daund section. Express trains on Pune-Daund section takes about 70 minutes with a diesel locomotive. The time taken is likely to go down with the introduction of electric locomotives.

Lonavala - Pune- Daund MEMU introduced is a welcome move. Moreover the Pune 6 th platforms have to be made as home platform for the convenience of the season ticket holders and public .
Some of the Daund - Pune - Lonavala MEMU have to be extended to Kalyan /Panvel,So as to reduce the commuters heavy rushes in the long distance expresses sleeper class coaches.

The extension of MEMU from Lonavala to Kalyan/Panvel may be difficult due to steep gradient in Lonavala-Karjat Ghat section.
Trains from Karjat to Lonavala needs at least 2 bankers.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
