Railway passengers can avail a safer and more secure travel in future, thanks to path-breaking technology developed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur. A new device for electronic railway interlocking system preventing trains from collision, developed by the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the IIT Kharagpur in collaboration with Research, Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and Service Improvement Group (SIG) of the Indian Railways, has been successfully tested as viable and effective, a senior researcher of the project said today.
He said since errors in the application logic of interlocking systems may have catastrophic consequences, this development has potential to minimise the chance of such errors. The tool has already been successfully tested in several railway yards.
