Come February 2017, popular long-distance trains like the Howrah-Mumbai Duronto and the Rajdhani will be able to halt at Tatanagar station platform 1, a convenience most passengers to and from Jamshedpur yearn for because of easy accessibility and better amenities.
Authorities of Chakradharpur railway division's engineering wing, that reviewed the progress of the extension work of platform 1 on Wednesday, said that after its completion, the platform would be able to accommodate trains with 24 coaches.
"The platform will be extended by 60 metres. Work is progressing on a war footing towards the

Chakradharpur end of the station. The work will get over by February. Only then mail, express, superfast and other high-profile trains with 24 bogies can stop at platform number 1," said S.K. Das, assistant engineer (AEN) at Tatanagar.
Platform 1, the easiest for passengers to reach from the portico of the station building, has a number of passenger amenities that aren't there on other platforms. It has a drinking water kiosk, second and first-class waiting rooms, a food plaza and several other food kiosks.
Das explained that as of now trains like Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superfast Express, Howrah-Mumbai Duronto, Howrah-Pune Duronto and Bhubaneshwar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express - all with more than 22 coaches - have to halt at platforms 3 or 4 or 5 because these are adequately long.
"All these trains will be able to halt at plaftorm 1 after the extension work is over," AEN Das added.
Tatanagar junction, located on the Howrah-Mumbai main line, is criss-crossed by over 100 express, mail and passenger trains, serving as many as 50,000 passengers everyday.
Railway sources said the commissioner of railway safety had given his nod for extending platform 1 in July. Work began last month.
Apart from Tatanagar, similar extensions of platforms would be carried out at in five other railway stations, including Rourkela and Jharsuguda under the Chakradharpur division.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...
