9,000 services were cancelled from April to October 2016 compared to 8,000 for the same period last year; on average forty-two trains were cancelled every day.
In the last seven months, the Central Railway witnessed more than 9,000 local train cancellations, a thousand more compared to the same period last year.
Between April and October 2016, the railway saw 9,000 cancellations compared to 8,000 for the same period in 2015, an increase of 11 per cent. On average, 42 trains were cancelled daily.
railway officials said that while 40 per cent of trains were cancelled due to megablock, 15 per cent were cancelled due to track related problems. In 2015, 14 per cent of local services were cancelled due to track related problems.
Cancellation due to the rakes developing technical problems also ticked upwards; 7 per cent this year as compared to 6 per cent last year.
Five per cent of trains were cancelled due to tussle with the Western Railway; 450 services were cancelled due to congestion between Khar and Andheri.
Cancellations due to bad weather have doubled since last year – 3.3 per cent this year compared to 1.6 per cent last year.
Public agitations saw .64 per cent of trains being cancelled, an increase of half a percentage point compared to last year’s measly .15 per cent. 175 services were cancelled due to trespassing and 45 local services cancelled due to chain pulling.
Subhash Gupta, member, Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC), said, “I raised the issue of maintenance in every meeting. I’ve also noticed that the tracks are in really bad condition. The increase in cancellations raises questions about the entire maintenance system.”
Anil Jain, Senior Public Relation Officer, Central Railway, said, “We will look in to the matter.”

Mumbai Suburban system is already stretched to limits. No substantial improvement is possible unless the dedicated (5th & 6th) lines for the long distance trains on BCT-VR, CSTM-Kalyan is completed along with third track upto DahanuRd, Kasara, Khopoli and additional harbour line corridor.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
